feat(sdk): default encrypt segment size to 2 MiB (DSPX-4496) - #1062
Conversation
Raise the writer's default segment size from 1 MiB to 2 MiB, to match the other OpenTDF SDKs. With 2 MiB segments, a payload uses half as many AES-GCM invocations per key, and the manifest lists half as many segments. Callers that never set `windowSize` will see the larger segments. Callers that set it are unaffected. The reader's fallback for manifests that omit an encrypted segment size stays at 1 MiB, because that is what older writers used. 📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe default encryption segment size changes from 1 MiB to 2 MiB. Documentation reflects the new default, and a round-trip test checks segment sizes and decrypted plaintext. ChangesEncryption segment size

expectedValis only 11 bytes, so this test encrypts one short final segment. It checks the manifest’s advertised defaults, but not whether the writer splits data at 2 MiB. A segmentation regression that leaves those manifest fields unchanged can pass.Use 2 MiB + 1 byte of plaintext and assert that the manifest records a full default-sized first segment and a 1-byte second segment.

What
The writer's default segment size goes from 1 MiB to 2 MiB, matching the other OpenTDF SDKs. Doc comments are updated to match.
The reader's fallback for manifests that omit an encrypted segment size stays at 1 MiB, because that is what older writers used.
tdf.tsnow has a comment explaining why the two constants differ. Why
Behavior change
Callers that never set
windowSizewill write 2 MiB segments, and buffer up to 2 MiB per segment. Callers that setwindowSizeare unaffected, and existing TDFs read exactly as before. How to test
cd lib && npm test. The new test "writes 2 MiB segments when no window size is given" checks the manifest values and decrypts the result.Risk
Moderate, for memory only. Peak memory during writes grows with segment size multiplied by the segment batch and concurrency settings. It's worth checking browser memory on large uploads before release.
