Add NewHTTPRangeReader, an io.ReadSeeker that issues one HTTP Range request per Read, and SDK.LoadTDFFromURL on top of it. Only the zip directory, the manifest and the segments actually read are fetched, so partial decrypts of very large remote TDFs stay cheap. Responses must be 206 with the exact requested Content-Range; a server that ignores Range (200) is rejected rather than streaming the whole file. Requests use the SDK's unauthenticated HTTP client so platform credentials are never sent to the TDF host. Part of DSPX-4886 (DSPX-5112). Signed-off-by: sujan kota <sujankota@gmail.com>

Two things I'd fix before merging: how non-206 responses are classified, and documenting how long ctx has to live. Suggestions are inline.

Every non-206 status comes back wrapped in errRangeNotSupported, but only a 200 actually means "range ignored". A wrong URL (404), an expired presigned URL (403), a 5xx, and an empty resource (416 on the bytes=0-0 probe) all produce "server did not honor the HTTP range request".
Redirects are the most confusing case. s.httpClient doesn't follow them (preventRedirectCheck returns http.ErrUseLastResponse), so an S3, CDN, or GitHub release URL that redirects fails with "...range request: status 302". That points the user at the wrong problem.
Suggestion: keep the sentinel for 200 only, and give 3xx its own message. Location is left out on purpose, since it can carry presigned tokens.

Test_LoadTDFFromURL_RangeNotSupported still passes with this change. Adding table cases for 404 and 302 that assert !errors. Is(err, errRangeNotSupported) would lock the behavior in.

Done in d69ebfd: only a 200 wraps the sentinel, 3xx says redirects aren't followed (no Location in the message), other statuses report their own status. Added Test_HTTPRangeReader_ErrorStatus covering 404/302/403, asserting !errors. Is(err, ErrRangeNotSupported).

Exported as ErrRangeNotSupported in d69ebfd.

ctx is stored on the reader and used for every later Read, not just the probe. That should be part of the documented contract:
| // http.DefaultClient. | |
| // http.DefaultClient. | |
| // | |
| // ctx is retained and bounds every range request made by later Reads, so it | |
| // must remain valid for as long as the reader is used. |

This must be a common pattern, or there must be a suggested workaround. Ideally Context would be somehow linked to the Reader, so Close would allow it to release some kind of marker.

Added to the NewHTTPRangeReader doc in d69ebfd.

Agreed it'd be better tied to the Reader. The catch is that sdk.Reader's ReadAt/WriteTo (and LoadTDF) take no context today, so a proper fix (per-call ctx, or ctx + Close) is a public API change to the TDF reader rather than something this type can do alone. I've documented the contract here and would like to take the API change as a follow-up ticket, if that works for you.
Only a 200 maps to ErrRangeNotSupported (now exported); redirects and other statuses get their own messages. Read fails if the server reports a different total size than the probe. Document that ctx bounds every range request for the life of the reader. Signed-off-by: sujan kota <sujankota@gmail.com>

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Reject malformed Content-Range totals.
fmt.Sscanf need not consume the full header. A server can send Content-Range: bytes 0-0/1junk, and the probe accepts it. It also accepts a total of -1; the reader then treats the resource as already at EOF. Parse the complete header and require gotEnd < size before accepting a 206 response. (pkg.go.dev)

off spec, there may be mistakes we want to account for.
I'm fine with the current solution, though, since it appropriately handles 'useful' responses, and the errors returned in the event of wrong/invalid responses are close enough

@dmihalcik-virtru Thanks for clarifying. Stricter Content-Range validation is optional hardening for this change. I won’t press for a parser change.

Learning: In opentdf/platform's sdk/http_range_reader.go, the maintainer accepts HTTPRangeReader's current Content-Range parsing for useful responses and does not require strict rejection of every malformed header or more precise errors for invalid responses. Do not require strict RFC parsing solely for completeness.
