Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • SaaS deployments can configure multiple cookie domains, with cookies matched to the request’s hostname or a parent domain.
    • Logging out now revokes all session tokens found in the browser and clears session cookies across applicable domains.
    • After logout, SaaS users are redirected to the appropriate login site based on their hostname.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Logout cleanup now completes even when the logout request finishes without returning a value.
    • When multiple session cookies are present, authentication uses the most recently issued valid token.

Walkthrough

The backend now selects session tokens from request cookies, supports configured cookie domains, and clears or revokes session tokens during logout. The frontend runs logout cleanup on request completion and selects the SaaS redirect URL based on the hostname.

Changes: Session and logout flow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Cookie domains and clearing
README.md, backend/src/entities/user/utils/*, backend/src/entities/company-info/company-info.controller.ts, backend/src/entities/user/user.controller.ts, backend/test/ava-tests/unit-tests/session-cookies.test.ts
The environment-variable documentation describes comma-separated cookie domains. Cookie-domain matching uses exact or dotted-suffix matches. Cookie clearing expires host-only cookies and, when a configured domain matches, domain cookies and the Clear-Site-Data: "cookies" header. Controllers use the shared clearing helper.
Session token selection and backend logout
backend/src/authorization/*, backend/src/entities/user/user.controller.ts, backend/test/ava-tests/unit-tests/session-cookies.test.ts, backend/test/ava-tests/non-saas-tests/non-saas-saas-microservice-logout-e2e.test.ts
Authentication middleware uses shared request-token utilities. The utilities extract and deduplicate cookie values and select the token with the greatest readable iat. Logout attempts to revoke every request token. Tests cover token selection and logout with multiple tokens.
Frontend logout completion and redirect
frontend/src/app/app.component.ts, frontend/src/app/app.component.spec.ts, frontend/src/app/lib/post-logout-url.ts, frontend/src/app/lib/post-logout-url.spec.ts
Logout cleanup runs when the request completes, even if it emits no value. SaaS logout uses the SiteNova login URL for sitenova.com and its subdomains, and the RocketAdmin site URL for other hostnames.

A failed logout request can leave users appearing logged out while their session cookie is still valid and restores on reload. On shared cookie domains, a stray cookie with a newer timestamp could also block sign-in. Fix the logout failure handling and consider verifying tokens before ranking them before merging.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 90.91% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 11 functions across 16 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Full details: Security Check

Explanation

The pull request introduces an authentication denial-of-service path. readIssuedAt() decodes the JWT payload without signature verification, and selectSessionToken() chooses the token with the highest untrusted iat. All authentication middleware then verifies only that selected token. A malicious duplicate cookie with a forged high iat can therefore displace a valid session cookie and cause authentication to fail, including as a 500 in the middleware error path. This is relevant to the new domain-cookie design, where host-only and domain cookies are intentionally accepted together.

Resolution

Do not select an authentication token from unverified claims. Verify the signature and authentication claims for every candidate first, discard invalid candidates, and then select the newest verified token. Alternatively, use deterministic cookie order without parsing iat. Ensure invalid duplicate cookies cannot displace a valid session or produce a 500. Add a regression test with one valid token and one forged high-iat duplicate. Review logout so that arbitrary raw cookie values are not inserted into the logout blacklist without validation or bounded input.

Verify a token before letting its iat displace a valid session.

If a request contains a valid session cookie and a forged cookie with a larger iat, this function selects the forged token. The middleware then verifies only that token, so authenticated requests fail while the valid cookie remains present. A subdomain can set a parent-domain cookie, making this collision feasible on a shared cookie domain. Select among verified, usable tokens rather than ranking unverified payloads alone. Do not clear unrelated applications’ cookies during logout.

If another application uses a sibling host under a configured domain, this header deletes that application’s cookies when a user logs out of RocketAdmin. Clear-Site-Data: "cookies" applies to the entire registrable domain, not only to the session cookie names or the response host. Restrict this behavior to domains dedicated to RocketAdmin, or use a clearing strategy that does not reset unrelated applications. (w3.org)

Do not finalize local logout after an unconfirmed request.

logOutUser() catches HTTP errors and returns EMPTY. finalize then calls _finishLogOut, even when authentication middleware or transport failure prevents UserController.logOut from clearing the cookies. The existing cookie can then be sent during initializeUserSession() after reload.

The backend clears cookies before token revocation when the handler runs, so this issue applies to failures before the handler, not to a revocation result. The previous frontend code skipped cleanup when logOutUser() returned EMPTY; update the test to cover the pre-handler failure case.

Suggested fix
-import { filter, finalize } from 'rxjs/operators';
+import { filter } from 'rxjs/operators';

-			.pipe(finalize(() => this._finishLogOut(isTokenExpired)))
-			.subscribe();
+			.subscribe(() => this._finishLogOut(isTokenExpired));

Change logOutUser() to rethrow the HTTP error instead of returning EMPTY if the caller must handle the failure explicitly.

Review comment at @frontend/src/app/app.component.ts at line 339:
Update the logout subscription in the flow using logOutUser() so _finishLogOut
runs only after a successful response, not when the request completes or errors
without confirmation. Add coverage for a pre-handler failure to verify local
cleanup is skipped and the existing cookie remains available for session
initialization.
