[HIGH]
consolidateClerkIdentifiers runs before the Clerk postTransform that removes the Dashboard's formula-safety TAB, and FORMULA_SAFE_FIELDS does not list the phone fields at all. merge() uses the primary value untrimmed but trims the verified and unverified lists through parseDelimitedStrings. For a CSV phone, which always starts with + and so gets the TAB prefix, "\t+15555550100" never matches "+15555550100". Reproduced at this head:
- primary and verified hold the same phone: output is
phone: ["+15555550100","+15555550100"], a duplicate that the import will send toPOST /v1/users. - primary is listed under
unverified_phone_numbers: output isphone: ["+15555550100"]andunverifiedPhoneNumbers: ["+15555550100"]. The unverified phone is created verified, which is exactly what the comment inmerge()says it prevents.
Emails starting with -, +, = or @ hit the same problem. Current tests miss it because they only cover names and an unverified-only address.
Recommended fix
Remove the TAB prefix before consolidating: run the source's postTransform first, or unprefix inside the Clerk mapping. Add the phone fields to FORMULA_SAFE_FIELDS, and trim the primary in merge() so it is compared on the same terms as the lists. Add a test for a TAB-prefixed unverified primary phone.

Fixed in 1932803. The source's postTransform now runs before consolidateClerkIdentifiers, so the TAB comes off each cell first. phone, phoneNumbers and unverifiedPhoneNumbers are in FORMULA_SAFE_FIELDS, and the primary is trimmed in merge(). Tests cover a TAB-prefixed phone that is primary and verified (one phone), a TAB-prefixed primary phone listed as unverified (stays unverified), and the same for a + email.

shared.ts treats null, NULL and \N as SQL NULL from a CSV export, and isVerified handles them. The rest of the Supabase mapping does not. On a CSV that writes NULL this way:
deleted_at: "NULL"is truthy, so every user getsskipReason: "deleted in Supabase".raw_user_meta_data: "NULL"passes through as the string"NULL"and failsmetadataSchema, so the whole row fails validation. I reproduced this with a one-row CSV: 0 users, 1 failure.phone: "NULL"becomesunverifiedPhoneNumbers: "NULL".encrypted_password: "NULL"setspasswordDropped: trueon a user who never had a password.
So a NULL encoding that the code already recognises for timestamps ends up dropping the whole file.
Recommended fix
Export the NULLISH_STRINGS check from shared.ts (for example isNullish(value)). At the start of the Supabase postTransform, delete any mapped string field that matches it, or drop those values generally in transformKeys. Add a CSV test with NULL cells.

Fixed in a4088e7. shared.ts exports isNullish, reusing the NULL spellings, and the Supabase postTransform clears any nullish cell before it maps anything. A one-row CSV with NULL in deleted_at, raw_user_meta_data, phone and encrypted_password now imports 1 user, with no skip, no failure, no phone and no passwordDropped.

postTransform always sets passwordHasher from the digest when a password exists, so the defaults.passwordHasher: "bcrypt" never takes effect for those users. It survives only on users with no password, including OAuth-only users and users whose hash was dropped. Reproduced: { encrypted_password: "" } loads as { userId, email, passwordHasher: "bcrypt" }. The schema accepts that, but it puts a hasher with no digest on every passwordless user handed to the importer.
Recommended fix
Remove the Supabase defaults block, since detectStandardHasher already decides the hasher per user.

Fixed in cc7eaed. The Supabase defaults block is gone, since detectStandardHasher sets the hasher per digest. A passwordless user now loads with no passwordHasher. Auth0 and Firebase keep their defaults, because their postTransform does not set one.

validatePreparedUsers records row: i and the fallback ID row-${i} 0-based, so the second user is row-1. assertUserRows in the same file reports the second entry as row 2. Someone matching failures back to the export will look at the wrong record, and for a CSV, where the header takes line 1, the gap is two lines.
Recommended fix
Use one convention for both. 1-based matches assertUserRows and what a person counting rows expects.

Fixed in 8013f31. Validation failures are now 1-based (row: i + 1, row-${i + 1}), matching assertUserRows, so the second user is row 2.

A null or primitive row crashed the import with a TypeError. It now fails with a CliError that names the row. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…uses every call Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Metadata `first_name` was read as a display name and split, so `last_name` was never read and `full_name` was ignored. Separate name fields now map as-is; `display_name`, `full_name` and `name` stay the split fallback. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… aborting The abort only fired when the hasher was Zod's first issue, so a row that also lacked a userId became an ordinary reject. It also bypassed `--allow-partial`, letting one hand-edited row block the whole import with no way to skip it. A failed row is never imported, so the abort's reason no longer holds: the hasher enum now names the bad value and the valid ones, and the row fails like any other. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Defaults were spread after the raw row, and `transformKeys` maps keys in order, so a default `passwordHasher` overwrote a row's `password_hasher`. Clerk and Supabase don't hit it today, but every later source shares the pipeline. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…erk identifiers Identifiers were consolidated before the Clerk source removed the TAB a Dashboard CSV prefixes to values starting with + - = @, phones were not on that list at all, and the primary was compared untrimmed. So a phone listed as primary and verified was sent twice, and an unverified primary was created verified. The source's cleanup now runs first, covers the phone fields, and the primary is trimmed like the lists. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The shared NULL spellings were only checked for verification times. On a CSV that writes SQL NULL as text, deleted_at "NULL" skipped every user, raw_user_meta_data "NULL" failed the row, phone "NULL" became an unverified phone, and encrypted_password "NULL" marked a password as dropped. Those cells are now cleared before the Supabase mapping runs. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The hasher is read from each digest, so the default only ever reached users with no password, putting a hasher with no digest on them. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Failures named the second user row 1 (and row-1 with no ID), while the row check in the same file calls it row 2. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The trim added to compare the primary with its lists threw on an array, which the schema accepts for these fields, and stopped the whole load. The primary is now read like the lists: its first entry is the primary and any others count as verified. Array entries are trimmed as split strings already were. The cleanup for a CSV export's `NULL` cells ran on every field, so a last name of "Null" disappeared. It now clears only the nullable `auth.users` columns. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
`detectStandardHasher` matched only the `$2a$`/`$2b$`/`$2y$` prefix, so a malformed digest such as `$2a$10$hash` kept the user's password, and the checks then rejected the whole user for a digest Clerk would refuse. It now takes bcrypt only in the full shape Clerk accepts (cost up to 15, 60 characters), so a malformed one is dropped like any other unusable hash and the user imports. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Clerk's ban has no end, so a Supabase ban still in force carries as `banned` and stays until someone lifts it, but the date it should have ended was thrown away. A new schema field, `banEndsAt`, holds it (it is never sent to Clerk) for a ban ending within ten years; Supabase writes a "permanent" ban as one about a century out, so that one keeps none. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…d match the checks Three Supabase-source fixes: - `created_at` is nullable in `auth.users`, but it was left off the columns a CSV's NULL text is cleared from, so a `NULL` there failed validation and the user was dropped. - bcrypt costs 00–03 passed: clerk_go stores them, but Go's bcrypt refuses any cost under 4 at sign-in, so that password could never be used. Such a digest is now dropped like any other unusable one. - The source's description and password note said users on a disabled provider are rejected and that a dropped password is reset. The checks keep a user who can sign in by email or phone code, and do not count a reset as a way in. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

question: A soft-deleted user only gets a skipReason here, and validatePreparedUsers treats that row as valid (skipReason is just an optional string in validator.ts). Only the 1c checks actually keep it out. That's safe while nothing calls the loader, but it means every future caller has to run the checks or deleted users get imported. Should validation reject (or filter) a row with skipReason itself?
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Good question. I'd keep validation passing it through, so the checks stay the one gate. If validation dropped a skipReason row, it would vanish from the run. Today checkImport records it as skipped: deleted in Supabase, and that's what the summary, --json and clerk migrate runs report. The loader's only caller is the import, which always runs the checks before writing.
To make that contract visible to a future caller, the skipReason field in validator.ts now says validation passes the row through, checkImport is what rejects it, and anything that creates users has to run the checks (in 9bad539, with the anonymous-user change below).

nit: resolveSource is async but never awaits anything. Also, getSource above (line 44) throws a plain Error rather than a CliError. Neither can be reached from user input yet, but a plain Error will surface as an unhandled failure if it ever can.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Leaving both as is:
resolveSourcebecomes truly async in feat(migrate): add custom sources and migrate sources #530, where a custom source loads through a dynamicimport(). Keeping the signature now saves changing every caller then.getSourceonly runs with a keyresolveSourcehas already accepted (the import resolves--sourcefirst), so itsErrormarks a programming mistake rather than bad input. A user-facing unknown key getsresolveSource's usage error, listing the valid ones.

question: Next to the soft-delete skip: Supabase anonymous users (is_anonymous) have no identifier, so each one will fail validation as missing an identifier. Would it be clearer to skip them here with their own skipReason?
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Yes, much clearer. Done in 9bad539 ("fix(migrate): skip an anonymous Supabase user rather than fail it as having no identifier"):
is_anonymousmaps through, and a true one (or"true"from a CSV) setsskipReason: "anonymous in Supabase, with no email or phone". The field is then dropped, likedeletedAt.- The at-least-one-identifier rule lets a row with a
skipReasonthrough, so these are recorded as skipped instead of counted as validation failures.
Test: "skips an anonymous user". export supabase (#524) also needs to select is_anonymous for its own exports to carry the flag, so that goes into #524 next.
