A general settings save persisted untouched ActivityWatch categories, causing the Research Edition loader to mistake install defaults for a user taxonomy and leave its preset inactive. This article explains the merged fix, the user edits it preserves, and the explicit compatibility tradeoff for absent scores.
Includes the generated Open Graph card. Evidence is linked to ActivityWatch/aw-webui#974 and ActivityWatch/activitywatch#1441; the post distinguishes merged code from packaged-build verification.
Validation: scoped source hooks and strict frontmatter validation; redaction-enabled sync; website commit hooks; independent factual review against merged code; visual inspection of the Open Graph card. Production AI review: 5/5, consensus 3/3, zero findings at b0fde2f.
