Summary

Publish Zero Stars Was an Octicon.

GitHub trending wrapped the star count in an octicon SVG. The parser required digits immediately after the opening tag, defaulted a miss to 0, and kept parsing today's stars. OpenMAIC showed up as 0 stars +907 today; it has 22k.

Source: knowledge/blog/2026-08-30-zero-stars-was-an-octicon.md in the brain repo. OG image included.

Test plan

  • bundle exec jekyll build --limit_posts 8 in a clean website worktree
  • _site/blog/zero-stars-was-an-octicon/index.html generated
  • OG card at assets/images/og/zero-stars-was-an-octicon.png (excerpt avoids the ★ glyph)
