feat(operator, chart): make backup/restore Job retry and deadline limits configurable - #573
Conversation
…ts configurable Backup and restore restic Jobs took a hard-coded BackoffLimit 2 and ActiveDeadlineSeconds 86400. They now come from operator flags --backup-job-backoff-limit / --backup-job-active-deadline-seconds, set from Helm values operator.backupJobBackoffLimit / operator.backupJobActiveDeadlineSeconds (defaults 2 and 86400). Missing keys (helm upgrade --reuse-values from an older release) and a zero deadline fall back to the defaults; negative values fail the render and the operator start-up. Spec 018 OD-027. WalkthroughBackup and restore Job retry limits and active deadlines can now be configured through Helm values and operator flags. The operator validates the settings and passes them to both reconcilers, which apply resolved values when creating Jobs. ChangesBackup and Restore Job Limits

limit before converting them to int64 in the template’s deadline and retry
checks. Reject unsupported types and non-integer values rather than letting
conversion silently turn invalid input into zero; preserve the existing range
checks for valid integers.

…dering 0 `| int64` turned values like "abc" or 1.5 into 0, which disabled retries or gave the operator a 0 deadline it refuses at start-up. The template now checks for a whole number by kind (YAML numbers arrive as float64) before converting, and fails the render otherwise. Summary
Spec 018 OD-027 (maintainer decision 2026-10-05: make them Helm values). Backup and restore restic Jobs had a hard-coded
BackoffLimit: 2andActiveDeadlineSeconds: 86400(shipped provisionally in #549).--backup-job-backoff-limit(default 2) and--backup-job-active-deadline-seconds(default 86400), validated at start-up (backoff >= 0, deadline > 0). The Backup and Restore reconcilers take them asJobBackoffLimit/JobActiveDeadlineSeconds;resolveJobLimitsapplies the defaults when unset, so reconcilers built without them (existing tests) keep 2 / 86400. An explicit backoff of 0 is honoured.operator.backupJobBackoffLimit: 2andoperator.backupJobActiveDeadlineSeconds: 86400invalues.yaml, passed as operator args. A missing/null key (e.g.helm upgrade --reuse-valuesfrom an older release) omits the flag so the operator default applies; negative values fail the render.docs/install.md,operator/specs.md; CHANGELOG under Unreleased/Added.Test plan
go build ./...andgo vet ./internal/controller/inoperator;gofmt -lcleanhelm template: defaults render 2/86400; null keys omit both flags; backoff 0 kept; overrides 5/3600 rendered; negative values fail with a clear message; beta.8 upgrade values render 2/86400TestResolveJobLimits(added with maintainer sign-off)🤖 Generated with Claude Code
