TLDR

Removes inventory-confirmed dead code and stale dependency declarations from the #2235 family (packages/cli, packages/agents, packages/ide-integration, packages/vscode-ide-companion, packages/test-utils), tracing every removal to the #2232 dead-code inventory (checked in via #3313) or equivalent current-source evidence. ~54 files changed, +374 / −4,296 net at the first push (the insertions are mostly the checked-in plan doc with per-candidate evidence, plus lockfile churn). Every candidate was re-verified against current main (e5ec3a1) before deletion; what was intentionally kept is documented with reasons in project-plans/issue2235/PLAN.md.

Removed, production dead code (stream A):

• packages/cli: config/auth.ts, ui/commands/lspCommand.ts, ui/constants/tips.ts, ui/components/{AuthInProgress,RawMarkdownIndicator,SecureKeyInput,StatusDisplay}.tsx, ProfileCreateWizard/NavigationMenu.tsx (the wizard itself stays and is still rendered), ui/hooks/{useSession,useRefreshMemoryCommand,useShowMemoryCommand,useKittyKeyboardProtocol,useRewind,useStableCallback,useStaticHistoryRefresh}.ts, utils/commentJson.ts (settings uses the npm comment-json package directly; the local wrapper was test-only), plus their test files.
• packages/agents: core/messageStreamModelInfo.ts, core/bucketFailoverIntegration.ts (production failover lives in packages/providers/src/runtime/bucketFailover.ts), core/contentBlockHelpers.ts.
• Inventory rows for CloudFreePrivacyNotice and renderLoopDetector were already removed by other changes since the inventory; documented, no action.

Removed, test-support (stream B):

• agents/compression-config.ts and tokenUsageTestAssertions.ts were test-only helpers; their sole consumers now define the same constants/assertions locally (values byte-identical to the deleted modules, verified against e5ec3a1).
• bucketFailoverIntegration.spec.ts and its stale tsconfig.noemit.json exclude + eslint-guard baseline row (baseline removals only; the Test files are excluded from typecheck, so type errors in tests never fail CI #3161 scanner forbids additions, and it passes).

Dependency changes (stream C):

• root: gradient-string (unused; remains legitimately transitive via ink-gradient; verified no direct imports in shipped source).
• packages/cli: gradient-string.
• packages/ide-integration devDeps: fast-check.
• packages/test-utils: @vybestack/llxprt-code-storage (empty dependencies key dropped).
• packages/vscode-ide-companion: npm-run-all replaced with npm-run-all2@^8.0.4. The watch script already invoked npm-run-all2, which was not installed, so npm run watch was broken before this PR. v8 was chosen over v9 because v9's engines (^22.22.2 || ^24.15.0 || >=26.0.0) conflict with the repo's >=24 engines and with Node 25 dev machines (EBADENGINE observed locally with v9); v8 supports node ^20.5.0 || >=22.0.0.
• Root @xterm/headless was initially removed as unused at root, then RESTORED in 92cd92e: in the packed layout packages/core source ships inside the published root package, and core's direct @xterm/headless import resolves via the root dependency declaration in consumer installs (the Node Consumer Smoke CI job failed without it). Core's own declaration was never touched.
• Both lockfiles regenerated (npm install --package-lock-only + bun install); nested bun workspace snapshots verified consistent with the new manifests.

Retained with reasons (details in PLAN.md): cliCommandApiMap.ts (backs the live completeness contract test from #2203), chatSession-tokenSync-helpers.ts (now imported by production chatSession.ts; inventory row stale), chatSession-runtime/thinking-helpers (live test consumers), PrivacyManager.ts and ConversationDataRedactor.ts (consumed by the manual QA script test-scripts/privacy-validation.ts; PrivacyManager was initially removed and restored when that surviving consumer surfaced), root @xterm/headless (packed-CLI consumer resolution, above), phrasesCollections.ts, modelInfoHelpers.ts, ui/privacy notices, a2a-server server.ts.

Verification: full repo npm run test (agents lifecycle 409/409 files, 4,563 pass / 0 fail; CLI 741/741; observed flakes isolated to unchanged files), lint across all 18 targets, typecheck delta zero vs main (2 errors in agents/src/core/profile/__tests__/profileRepositoryAdapter.test.ts exist on clean main, proven via stash), format and build green, lint:eslint-guard 0, vscode-ide-companion install + watch proof (both tasks launch, 0 TS errors, no EBADENGINE). CLI smoke (stepfun-37) is blocked externally: the StepFun subscription was cancelled 2026-09-13 and the run returns HTTP 400 "you have no active step plan subscription"; captured in tmp/issue2235/smoke.log and documented in PLAN.md, with no profile substitution.

Overlap note for maintainers: open subissues #3294 (core/agents slice), #3295 (deps), and #3297 (cli) have no implementing PRs; the rows from those slices that fall inside this PR's package family are handled here. Worth striking those rows or cross-referencing this PR when reconciling #2233–#3298.

Merge of main (a1c466f) resolved — conflicts with the parallel #3294 agents dead-code removal (#3671):

• tokenUsageTestAssertions.ts: main had relocated it to __tests__/helpers/; this branch had inlined it into its sole consumer (tokenUsageSwitch.test.ts) and deleted it. Kept the inline+delete; zero references remain under packages/agents.
• compression.test.ts / compression-logic.test.ts: both branches inlined the threshold locally after deleting compression-config.ts. Kept this branch's 2 * (1 - 0.85) (= 0.3), which is byte-identical to the deleted module's export; main's inline used 0.5, which would have changed the tested value. Follow-up commit 72f7d119a also corrected pre-existing comments that stale-referenced 0.5.
• blockHelpers.characterization.test.ts: took both sides — main's removal of the obsolete P16/P17 comment blocks plus the shared repoint to @vybestack/llxprt-code-core/utils/generateContentResponseUtilities.js.
