[Dashboard] Create vault service accounts through api-server - #8918
Conversation
Service-account creation was the last vault operation still run from the browser. It now goes through the typed action layer to POST /v1/teams/:team/projects/:project/vault/service-account, which mints the management and wallet tokens and creates the default project wallet server-side. A managed vault no longer hands back the admin key or wallet token — the server seals both with the project secret key — so the creation dialog shows the masked admin key for managed vaults and keeps the download-and-confirm flow for ejected ones. upgradeAccessTokensForSolana still runs in the browser: no api-server endpoint reissues a project's management and wallet tokens in place, so initVaultClient stays for that one caller and is no longer exported. WalkthroughThe dashboard now creates Vault service accounts through a server action. Project creation uses managed mode. Vault interfaces support managed results and ejected credentials with normalized response fields. ChangesVault service-account migration
Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to This change moves vault service-account creation to the server and updates the related project and vault flows. The remaining risk is limited to duplicated helper and download logic that may drift over time; no merge-blocking risk remains, so it is ready after normal checks. Sequence Diagram(s)sequenceDiagram

Full details: Title checkExplanation The title clearly and concisely describes the main change: moving vault service-account creation to the api-server. It is related to the changeset, although it does not use the repository's full suggested prefix format. Full details: Description checkExplanation The description provides a detailed summary of the implementation, behavior changes, affected callers, and known limitations. It does not include explicit Notes for the reviewer, How to test steps, or an issue tag, but the core change and review context are complete.

Moves the last vault operation still running in the browser — service-account creation — onto the api-server endpoint added for it.

Follows the conventions of the actions added in [Dashboard] Route vault operations through api-server #8916.createVaultAccountAndAccessTokenfromtransactions/lib/vault.client.ts, along with the browser-side token minting, encryption, default-wallet creation and project-write retry it owned. The server does all of it in one call.create-vault-account.client.tsx,vault-recovery-card.client.tsx,create-project-modal/index.tsx,create-project-form.tsx.initVaultClientis no longer exported.Behaviour
Project creation is unchanged: one call, managed mode, default server wallet created server-side. The management token is now persisted by the server rather than round-tripped through the browser, so the client-side "missing management access token" guard is gone.
A managed vault no longer returns its admin key or wallet token — the server seals both with the project secret key. The creation dialog therefore shows the masked admin key for a managed vault, matching the rotate dialog, and keeps the existing key display,
.txtdownload and "I confirm I've stored these" gating for ejected vaults. The endpoint refuses with a typed 409 when the project already has a service account, pointing the caller at rotation.
vault-recovery-card.client.tsxsurfaces that message; giving that card a rotation-based path is worth a follow-up.Not migrated
upgradeAccessTokensForSolanastays in the browser. It reissues a project's management and wallet tokens in place under the existing admin key, and no api-server endpoint does that —access-tokensmints wallet-policy tokens only and never writesmanagementAccessToken, and rotation replaces the admin key.initVaultClient,NEXT_PUBLIC_THIRDWEB_VAULT_URLand the@thirdweb-dev/vault-sdkimport stay for that one caller and can be deleted once it has an endpoint.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
