🎯 Task Status
Please make sure pull request labels and draft status reflect the current status of your work!
On macOS, the system-provided Make is 3.81. stdlib uses .SHELLFLAGS which wasn't introduced until GNU Make 3.82+, so stock macOS Make swallows pipeline failures (no pipefail enforcement). Solution: contributors on macOS need Homebrew GNU Make (brew install make, which installs as gmake) for full safety guarantees.
🔭 My plan for the current week
Continue blog post series work.
Get stdlib make docs into a shape where I can share for feedback.
Solicit more workflow feedback re. what folks are/are not running locally and why. Aim: figure out where to prioritize documentation efforts for contributors (especially those on Windows). WSL2/Dev-Container? MSYS2/Git-Bash?
🙏 Challenges that I've faced and things I'd like help with
Would ✨ LOVE ✨ notes/thoughts as GSoCers go on things that work in unexpected ways, conventions they wish they knew earlier, conventions they know now but weren't written down anywhere, etc.
^^ are there comments you get in PRs that were surprising to you? @ me!!

💬 Important items for discussion
What would the shape of AI agent deployment actually be? I've been working on a few things in addition to just agent-friendly documentation (e.g. "fuzy" linters), but don't know where these might fit into workflows/pipelines (which impacts how they should be written).
Shoutout to @anandkaranubc for helping push forward the extended BLAS work.
Shoutout to @gunjjoshi for submitting talk proposals to iJS Munich. Another shoutout for continuing to push forward the FFT work.
Shoutout to @impawstarlight for his Uint64 work. This and follow-on work will help unlock indexing routines throughout the project, in addition to the PRNG work.
Last week was a slower week, as I was traveling throughout the week due to the US holiday. Over the weekend, I was playing catch-up.
The usual code and PR review, as time allowed.
Investigated some security advisories related to GitHub action workflows.
Roadmapped and planned a @stdlib/simulate/strided/* namespace. We currently have iterators for generating synthetic datasets. This effort will provide similar dataset generation facilities, but as strided APIs. These APIs will provide a framework for eventually creating top-level ndarray APIs for synthetic dataset generation. @gunjjoshi will be helping out here, with the work being useful for the FFT efforts.
Submitted a couple of talk proposals to iJS Munich. One on "exotic" array types. Another on scaling open source in the age of LLMs. My guess is that the second talk will have a higher chance of being accepted, but we'll see.
Did some minor feature work in the blas/ext/base namespace, with the goal of working up to some useful utilities for BLAS/LAPACK work.
🕵️ Pull requests I reviewed
I reviewed and provided feedback on the following PRs:
blas/ext/base/cdiff: feat: add blas/ext/base/cdiff stdlib#11744 (via @headlessNode). This gets us a step closer to having a top-level diff API, which can be useful for provide a discrete derivative operator, which has various use cases, including approximating derivatives of a sampled function when solving ODEs/PDEs and in sensitivity analysis, detecting changepoints, removing trends during time series modeling, denoising images, and as part of various solvers.
number/uint64/ctor: feat: add number/uint64/ctor stdlib#10908 (via @impawstarlight). This adds a constructor for creating unsigned 64-bit integers. As mentioned above, this is a foundational component for Uint64Arrays, which will behave similarly to ComplexXXArrays which return complex number instances. By having an opaque Uint64 type (opaque meaning that the storage method is not made public to user code), we can avoid BigInt perf cliffs and more readily interoperate with C, and we can more readily have code which more seamlessly works with both built-in numbers and 64-bit integer values (something which is not readily doable with built-in BigInts).
...and a number of other PRs.
🧑🎓 One thing I learned last week
I learned a bit more about APIs for numerical integration, as I looked into what it would take to implement trapezoid (see NumPy/MATLAB) in stdlib. This led to consideration of higher dimensional integration primitives and their use cases, along with different API design. The TL;DR is that I think we can add integrate and differentiate namespaces and begin working on some of the primitives for numerical integration and differentiation (e.g., trapezoid, trapezoid-uniform, trapezoid2d, trapezoid-uniform-2d, etc). This will also help us with incorporating some of Ricky's work in scijs into stdlib by establishing prior art and package conventions.
🔭 My plan for the current week
The usual code and PR review. Catching up from last week.
Gunj's scaffolding PR and rfft PR.
Getting dtrmm over the finish line.
Various blas/ext/base utilities so that we can remove some internal helper functions from dgemm and friends.
Submitting a couple more conference talk proposals.
Continued ndarray dtype migration.
🙏 Challenges that I've faced and things I'd like help with
Main challenge is PR review prioritization. Still struggling to get the PR queue numbers down, with us consistently hovering around 800 open PRs.
I learned how BLAS routines such as dzasum and csscal follow established BLAS semantics across implementations, reinforcing the importance of preserving behavioral consistency when developing corresponding variants.
🔭 My plan for the current week
Add ndarray wrappers for *rot and *gemv routines.
Continue refactoring work related to replacing isMatrixTranspose with resolveStr.
Review Level 1 JavaScript implementations for *amax, *dotu, and *dotc routines.
🙏 Challenges that I've faced and things I'd like help with
I learned how to use git worktrees and advanced rebasing options to avoid rebase conflicts.
Also learned how to add doctesting support for new types.
🔭 My plan for the current week
I plan on working on uint64/parse, uint64/base/add, and other arithmetic packages for Uint64.
🙏 Challenges that I've faced and things I'd like help with
I had a hard time figuring out how to rebase a branch on top of develop that was initially created from another branch (for unmerged dependency). I managed to resolve it using the --onto flag in git rebase. But I'd like to know how cases like this can be handled in a better way, i.e. how should I structure multiple branches/PRs that depend on each other.

makestuff for a few weeks, I didn't actually have the right GNU Make setup on my Mac to align with stdlib practices (see: https://github.com/stdlib-js/stdlib/blob/d2f751e2a9be84e74863b07fef380abbeff2fdd4/tools/make/Makefile#L38-L48).Tip
