If you're interested in adapting this tutorial for easy Heroku deployment, here's a pull request that makes it instantly deployable. It does introduce the implicit dependency on Mongo HQ via the MONGO_HQ environment variable. But that could be tweaked to more easily support different Mongo DB providers.
