Review comments at @compile-partial.js:
- Line 140: Update the CI check in the lookup failure path to compare
process.env.CI explicitly with the string 'true', so values such as 'false' do
not trigger the build failure.
- Line 38: Attach an error listener to res in the response-handling flow and
reject the lookup when the response emits an error, preserving the existing
request error handling and warning behavior.
- Line 49: Replace the socket-inactivity timeout on req with an absolute
deadline that destroys the request if the complete lookup exceeds 10 seconds,
including during connection setup or intermittent responses. Clear the deadline
when the lookup settles.

Set a deadline for the complete lookup.
req.setTimeout(10000) measures socket inactivity after connection. It does not bound connection setup or a response that sends data at intervals shorter than 10 seconds. In either case, widget compilation can still hang instead of reaching the CI error or local warning. Use an absolute timer that destroys req, and clear it when the lookup settles. (nodejs.org)

Not changing this: the socket timeout already covers a stalled connection, and a slow trickle from docs.redpanda.com is unlikely enough that an extra overall timer is not worth it here.

@JakeSCahill Understood. You accept the residual risk of having no overall deadline for this lookup. I won’t press for an additional timer.

The Bump widgets (header, footer, head-bump, chat-panel-bump) get the latest Self-Managed version from compile-partial.js, which fetched antora.yml from redpanda-data/docs. That repo is private, so the fetch has returned 404 since it went private. Every release since then has shipped the widgets without a version: the API pages on docs.redpanda.com use
Self-Managed vas the search tag and an emptylatest-redpanda-versionmeta tag. You can see both on https://docs.redpanda.com/api/doc/admin/ and in v4.2.2's widgets.<meta name="latest-redpanda-version">on https://docs.redpanda.com/home/, which needs no token.LATEST_ENTERPRISEstill overrides it.gulp bundlehung at compileWidgets. CI runs Node 18, so CI only warned.Tested:
gulp bundlewith noLATEST_ENTERPRISE: rc 0 in 17 s. head-bump hascontent="26.2", and the footer search tag isSelf-Managed v26.2(with the Algolia env set).CI=trueexits 1 with the error, and without CI it warns and exits 0.
