Agents had to drive a signed-in browser to read stream markers, because every MarkerThing page needs Clerk sign-in. The marker data is public, so that step only got in the way.

Now there is a public, read-only endpoint:

GET /api/channels/<username>/latest-vod

It returns the latest finished stream VOD (id, title, url, created_at, duration, user_login) and all its markers. It skips the VOD of a stream that is still live. The creator's Twitch token stays on the server, the same way the OBS embed reads markers. Responses have s-maxage=60, so repeat calls hit the CDN, not the creator's Twitch rate limit.

To get all markers, I moved the marker page walk out of getLiveTopic into a shared getAllMarkers. The VOD page still reads only the first 100 markers; I did not change it.

Proof: a new test covers skipping the live VOD and loading 2 marker pages. It fails when the live VOD is not skipped. Typecheck, lint, tests and build pass locally. Runtime check is on the Vercel preview.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a public endpoint to retrieve a channel’s latest finished stream VOD and its markers. Callers do not need to sign in, but the creator must have signed in to MarkerThing at least once.
    • Responses are cached for 60 seconds. The endpoint returns a not-found response when no finished VOD is available, or an error response if Twitch or sign-in services fail.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance on the endpoint, its response, access requirements, caching, and error behavior.

Review in Change Stack →

Walkthrough

The change adds a public endpoint for a channel’s latest eligible archived VOD and its markers. It adds shared marker pagination, routes the lookup result through a GET endpoint, and documents the endpoint’s response and behavior.

Changes

Latest VOD endpoint

Layer / File(s) Summary
Marker pagination and VOD lookup
src/utils/twitch-server.ts, src/utils/twitch-server.test.ts
getAllMarkers follows marker-page cursors for up to 10 pages. getLatestVodWithMarkers selects an archived video not associated with the current live stream and returns its markers. getLiveTopic uses the shared pagination helper. The test checks selection of the finished VOD and retrieval of markers from two pages.
Public API route and documentation
src/app/api/channels/[username]/latest-vod/route.ts, README.md
The GET route returns the utility result, applies public caching to successful responses, and returns 404 or 502 responses for the described cases. The README documents the endpoint, response fields, sign-in requirements, and caching.

The new latest-VOD endpoint works for typical channels. It can silently omit markers on VODs with more than 1000 markers, and its 502 errors expose internal error text. Both fixes are small and can be made before merge or as a quick follow-up.

Closing in favor of #89, which adds the same endpoint with the contract the post-stream utility already uses.

🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Return a fixed public error message.

If the creator lookup or a dependency throws, this unauthenticated route sends e.message to the caller. The message can expose internal Clerk or Twitch failure details; the creator lookup already throws "User not found in Clerk". Keep the detailed server log, but return a fixed 502 message. (dev.twitch.tv)

Based on learnings, public API responses must not return internal exception details.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Do not return a partial marker list as complete.

If Twitch supplies an eleventh marker page, this loop stops after page ten and returns only the markers collected so far. Twitch allows up to 100 markers per page, so the public endpoint can omit markers despite promising all of them. Continue until pagination ends, or return an error when a deliberate safety limit is reached. (dev.twitch.tv)

RetriggerConfidence Score: 4/5

[Critical impact] Adds public API endpoint that exposes creator data without authentication.

The PR appears safe to merge, with a non-blocking concern about silently shortened marker lists.

### Issue 1
src/utils/twitch-server.ts:146
If Twitch returns more than ten marker pages, `getAllMarkers` stops and returns success even when another cursor remains. The new API promises all markers, so scripts cannot tell that the list is incomplete. Detect repeated cursors, or return an error when the page limit is reached with more pages remaining.
