Prepare a Solid 2 rc.13 implementation for the release strategy discussed
in #202. Keep the @formisch/solid package name and propose an experimental
2.0.0-next.0 version on a separate branch.

Replace removed Solid APIs, move JSX types to @solidjs/web, and preserve
immediate Formisch reads while Solid batches reactive updates. Register
field cleanup with the owner captured when JSX reads the ref callback.

Build client and SSR entry points with Vite and preserve one shared core
module for public methods and the internals export. Add adapter regressions,
field lifecycle and batching tests, packaged import checks, and a dedicated
Solid 2 CI workflow. Keep the Solid 1 playground on the published 1.1.x line.

Initial migration validation:

  • pnpm test: 1,191 tests in 128 files passed, with no type errors.
  • lint-packages and lint-frameworks passed.
  • Solid client, SSR and declaration builds passed.
  • Client imports in jsdom and SSR package artifact checks passed.
  • Public package conditions and shared Valibot configuration passed.
  • A consumer of the generated declarations compiled without type errors.
  • Dedicated workflow passed actionlint.

Review follow-up:

  • The shared core also has the experimental version 2.0.0-next.0, excluded from stable 1.x semver ranges. Its Solid target requires Solid 2.
  • Core tests passed: 471 with typechecking, and 328 runtime tests without it. Solid tests passed: 55 with no type errors.
  • Default coverage cleanup was restored and changelog entries follow repository conventions.

This is an experimental proposal. Publication and the coexistence of the
Solid 1 and Solid 2 release lines still need maintainer agreement. SSR
hydration in a real browser has not been verified.

The existing ci.yml has invalid local-action paths. The dedicated Solid 2
workflow uses the valid environment action; fixing the existing workflow
is outside this proposal.

BREAKING CHANGE: The Solid adapter requires solid-js 2.0.0-rc.13 and
@solidjs/web. Solid 1 applications should continue using @formisch/solid 1.x.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • The Solid integration now offers experimental compatibility with Solid 2 release candidate 13 while retaining the existing form API.
    • Added browser and server-rendering builds. Solid 1 applications can continue using the published 1.x package.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Improved immediate form and field state updates, reactive form props, and field registration when fields are added, removed, or reordered.
  • Tests

    • Expanded coverage for Solid 2 behavior, rendering, and package artifacts.
    • Added automated build, lint, formatting, and test checks for the Solid integration.

Walkthrough

The Solid adapter and binding are updated for Solid 2. Changes include signal behavior, state access, field registration, JSX types, and form prop forwarding. The Solid package now defines Solid 2 peer dependencies and browser and SSR build targets. Artifact tests check rendering, validation configuration, and package resolution. A GitHub Actions workflow runs package checks and core and methods tests.

Suggested reviewers: fabian-hiller

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 9e1ad

The Solid 2 dependency tree can install with a serializer plugin paired outside its exact peer contract, producing a warning. Align the override before merging; the issue is localized and no runtime failure is established.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to be76b

The experimental release is separated from stable Solid 1 consumers, and package checks address shared-state identity and runtime selection. Selected prerelease dependencies bypass the normal seven-day release delay, however, and real-browser hydration and exceptional state recovery remain unverified.

Retained concerns

  • Low · security · observed: The migration exempts exact Solid runtime and compiler prereleases from the workspace-wide seven-day release-age control. This deliberately removes the delay for those versions wherever installed in the workspace. Exact-version restrictions limit the exception, but runtime and build-tool consumers lose that supply-chain screening window; no compromised dependency is established.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The release-age exception applies at workspace installation scope, including platform-specific compiler packages, rather than only to a consumer form instance. A malicious exempted package could affect build execution or Solid runtime consumers; exact-version exemptions bound eligibility, not the authority available to executed dependency code.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — The supported security concern is a reduced dependency-screening window. Exploitation would require a malicious or compromised exempted package to be installed and executed; the inspected configuration does not establish that prerequisite or a direct attacker-input-to-privileged-sink vulnerability.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The internals export provides access to the same form store used by public methods, and it predates this migration. The inspected field flow handles caller-owned form values and DOM registrations; that access does not itself demonstrate gained tenant, service, or credential authority.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Recursive input mutation writes parent state and validation metadata before the target update, with no rollback boundary in the inspected block. Successful batching and lifecycle recovery have counterevidence, but exception recovery and publication divergence are unresolved; no introduced security failure is demonstrated.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Keep the release-age exemptions version-specific and time-bounded, verify the resolved prerelease dependency provenance, and restore the normal delay when the experimental exception is no longer needed.

Give the Solid 2 core its own 2.0.0-next.0 identity and document the
separate prerelease boundary. Keep its Solid 2 peer range truthful while
stable Solid 1 consumers remain on the 1.x release line.

Restore the default Solid coverage cleanup and use the repository's
changelog entry verbs. Run the mocked core suite as the root Vitest
project so the CLI controls typechecking without dropping the 143 type
tests. Preserve the package-local compiler and isolated Solid project.

Validation:
- Core test script: 471 tests in 23 files, with no type errors.
- Plain core vitest run: 328 runtime tests in 20 files, without typechecking.
- Solid test script: 55 tests in 10 files, with no type errors.
- Browser and SSR package artifact checks passed.
- Frozen lockfile metadata validation and formatting passed.
- Experimental core version is excluded from stable 1.x semver ranges.

Publication and prerelease tags still require maintainer agreement.

The Solid adapter and binding are updated for Solid 2

Original review summary.

The shared-core release boundary and test-configuration feedback are addressed in 2c2d31e. The release-boundary thread and the other inline replies record the changes and validation.

For the docstring warning, I kept the repository's overload convention: AGENTS.md requires JSDoc only on the first overload, and repo-source-code-document explicitly omits JSDoc on the implementation. The six public Solid overload signatures retain their JSDoc, as do the core adapter's exported functions. I have not duplicated implementation docstrings to change the coverage metric.

Follow-up validation passed: core 471 tests with typechecking and 328 runtime tests without it; Solid 55 tests with no type errors; browser/SSR artifacts, formatting, frozen lockfile metadata, and semver release-boundary checks. Publication remains subject to maintainer agreement.

The exact Solid prerelease exceptions in pnpm-workspace.yaml are intentional for this experimental compatibility build and apply to workspace installations. Retiring those exceptions is a follow-up policy decision when they are no longer needed. Cleanup ordering and real-browser hydration remain incompletely verified; the artifact checks do not establish those guarantees. The prerelease publication requirement remains documented in the core changelog and requires maintainer agreement.

Retract refs from registered arrays even when array methods transfer them
before JSX updates. Detach inactive slots while preserving reset baselines.

Add regressions for same-turn swap, remove and insert followed by disposal
or conditional removal, remount and reset. Verify that other registered
inputs remain intact.

Assert mutated form input and destination element identity before same-turn
unmount. Keep the original DOM rows unflushed so the cleanup regression
cannot pass when swap or remove does nothing.

Thanks, @fabian-hiller! I didn't know you had already started on this. How would you like to proceed? I can rebase onto your branch, pull out the parts that are useful to you (e.g. the field ref cleanup fix and the lifecycle/batching tests), or close this PR if yours already covers it.

Testing the Solid 2 adapter at be76b151290397b9327af59b9e8c02464953e64c against a downstream vendored Solid 2.0.0-rc.13 kernel, we still need untracked reads inside the field and form ref callbacks during browser hydration.

Without them, hydrating a native-element form reports:

[STRICT_READ_UNTRACKED] Reactive value read directly in an effect callback will not update.
get path → unwrap → getPath → field ref callback → applyRef

The local change is:

// useField.ts, inside the returned element ref callback
const internalFormStore = untrack(getInternalFormStore);
const internalFieldStore = getFieldStore(internalFormStore, untrack(getPath));

// Form.tsx, inside the form ref callback
untrack(() => props.of)[INTERNAL].element = element;

With these reads wrapped, the same hydration case preserves the server nodes, emits no warnings, and submits parsed nested/array/date values. Four local native/catalog hydration cases pass. This is evidence from our downstream kernel, not a claim of an independent stock-runtime reproduction; sharing the small adapter workaround in case it helps the Solid 2 port. The rc.13 ref-order changes alone did not remove the warning in this setup.

Follow-up on the evidence limit: our stricter hydration claim ledger subsequently found a separate Solid Web attribute/children ID-order mismatch, reproducible without Formisch. The ref workaround above removes the reported warning; the four local checks did not yet establish complete hydration claims. We are strengthening those assertions separately.

Thanks for sharing this, @gnovotny, and for clarifying the limits of the hydration checks. Could you share a minimal reproduction using the official Solid packages, with the exact versions and steps to trigger the ref-callback warning? That would help isolate the adapter behavior from the downstream kernel changes.

@fabian-hiller, when you have a moment, could you let me know how you'd prefer to proceed with this proposal alongside your Solid 2 work? No rush.

official pnpm documentation unmet peer dependency warning strict-peer-dependencies

💡 Result:

The official pnpm docs say `strictPeerDependencies` defaults to `false`. When enabled, commands **fail** if the dependency tree has a missing or invalid peer dependency—so it turns peer-dependency problems from warnings into failures. ([pnpm.io](https://pnpm.io/settings/peer-dependencies))

To suppress missing-peer warnings selectively, use `peerDependencyRules.ignoreMissing`; for accepted version mismatches, use `peerDependencyRules.allowedVersions`. ([pnpm.io](https://pnpm.io/settings/peer-dependencies))

🌐 Web query:

pnpm official docs invalid peer dependency warning strictPeerDependencies false

💡 Result:

pnpm’s official **v10 settings docs** say `strictPeerDependencies` defaults to `false`. With it disabled, missing or invalid peer dependencies can produce warnings without making the command fail; enabling it makes commands fail for those peer-dependency issues. ([github.com](https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm.io/blob/main/versioned_docs/version-10.x/settings.md))

```yaml
# pnpm-workspace.yaml
strictPeerDependencies: false
```

This controls whether peer-dependency issues fail the command; it doesn’t suppress the warnings. To mute particular version-mismatch warnings, pnpm documents `peerDependencyRules.allowedVersions`; for missing-peer warnings, use `peerDependencyRules.ignoreMissing`. Keep the Solid serializer peer dependency aligned.

seroval-plugins@1.6.7 declares the exact peer seroval: 1.6.3, but the Solid 2 snapshots resolve it with seroval@1.6.7. With strict-peer-dependencies=false, pnpm can install this tree while emitting an invalid peer-dependency warning.

Restore the base override until a compatible seroval-plugins peer contract is available.
