Glossary and Prelude

You: a member of the Mupen64 Organization

Official communication: communication by organization members in an official capacity, such as providing support or discussing feature requests.

Owners: an owner of the Mupen64 Organization

This Code of Conduct applies to all members and owners of the Mupen64 Organization.

We're just a bunch of hobbyists doing this for fun and operating on mutual respect, so this code's "rules" are mostly just guidelines to prevent stuff from becoming chaotic.

The spirit of the law counts here :D

For transparency, every section of this code has a short rationale at the end to explain why it exists.

Mission Statement

The Mupen64 Organization is dedicated to providing fast, powerful, and user-friendly TAS tooling for the Nintendo 64, particularly Super Mario 64 and its romhacks.

Why: this is just what our niche is

Communications

You should communicate officially only via public channels. Private channels (e.g. Discord DMs) are heavily discouraged, but may be used for urgent and private matters such as vulnerability reports.

Public channels are primarily the Mupen64 Community Discord server, as well as related community Discord servers (e.g. SM64 TAS and ABC).

Other platforms are fine too, though please inform other members via an official channel when you're taking up comms elsewhere.

Why: fragmented comms have bitten us in the past repeatedly, generally just gumming up the development process and confusing the community; just truly unnecessary unforced errors.
