Maybe try adding a probe path to the SDK. e.g.:

<probePath>C:\Program Files\dotnet\shared\Microsoft.NETCore.App\8.0.15</probePath>

@AsheeshGareeb A fix for this is available in our actively maintained fork: mcpolo99#55

The fix auto-detects .NET Core/5+/6/7/8+ runtime assembly paths by parsing runtimeconfig.json next to the target assembly, eliminating the need for manual <probePath> entries. Falls back to probing standard dotnet install directories.

Feel free to test and report back.

hehe, yes, i am currently using this on every project to make the source just slightly bit harder to crack. also i am planning on making a short configuration guide to make the obfuscation unique to your own , and therefore make it harder for automated deobfuscation.

But i take it you tested the branch and it can safely be merged?

Just had a test... It's OK in a small test app. But if there are dependencies that have references to assemblies in older SDKs then for net10.0 I get something like:

Updated the fix in our fork (mcpolo99#55) — now probes ALL installed .NET runtime versions, not just the target's. This handles cross-version dependencies where e.g., a net10.0 app references a library compiled against net8.0.

No more manual <probePath> entries needed for mixed-version scenarios.

@mkaring @mcpolo99 I was wondering if there's an interest in moving ConfuserEx to an organisation so that it could have multiple maintainers? I was trusted to take over as a maintainer on OpenMcdf some time ago, and I don't mind helping out here too. It's such a useful project and would be great if it could be continued!
