Python: Would you link an external OpenViking ContextProvider from the docs? #8991
Once we've built and validated an external Python OpenVikingContextProvider, would you accept a docs PR linking to it so Agent Framework users can find it? If so, which page should it target, and what would you want to see before merging?
The provider isn't written yet. We'd like to know whether a docs link is a realistic path before we start, then come back with the published package and a working example.
OpenViking is an open-source context database for agent memory, knowledge, and skills. One reason users would choose it: it's self-hosted, so teams can keep long-term agent memory on their own infrastructure. The provider would use the existing ContextProvider hooks, retrieving relevant context in before_run and recording the conversation in after_run. We don't expect to need any new framework APIs.
Following the guidance in #8817, this would be a separate package owned and maintained by the OpenViking team (I'm one of the maintainers). We're not asking Microsoft to host or maintain it. If the discoverability work mentioned there would be a better fit than a docs page, we're happy to go that way instead.

Thanks for checking in before building this out! We don't yet have the discoverability story for external ContextProvider packages worked out (we're actively working on it, as noted in #8817), so we can't commit to a specific docs page or format today. Keeping this issue open to track that work, and once discoverability lands, we'd be glad to feature OpenViking there.
We now have a community projects file in the repo (under python/samples) that you can submit a PR against for this, please do so! Zayn Jarvis (@ZaynJarvis)
The OpenViking Python context provider is now published in the OpenViking repository, with installation instructions, an example, and tests. I opened #9641 to add it to the Python community catalog under Context providers, as suggested. The entry links directly to the integration and routes support to OpenViking. Thanks for the guidance!
