📝 Walkthrough

GCTS clone now accepts token or username/password authentication from CLI options or environment variables. It validates credential combinations, prompts for a missing password when possible, and forwards credentials to repository creation. Repository lookup also matches URLs with or without a trailing .git.

Changes: Clone authentication

Layer / File(s) Summary
Resolve clone credentials
sap/cli/gcts.py, doc/commands/gcts.md, test/unit/test_sap_cli_gcts.py
The CLI accepts basic-authentication options and environment variables, validates combinations, and prompts for a missing password on a terminal. Documentation and tests cover credential resolution and CLI forwarding.
Pass credentials to repository creation
sap/rest/gcts/simple.py, test/unit/test_sap_rest_gcts.py
Clone operations pass optional username and password values to create, which adds supplied values to the repository configuration. Tests cover defaults and credential forwarding.

Repository URL matching

Layer / File(s) Summary
Match URLs with or without .git
sap/cli/gcts.py, test/unit/test_sap_cli_gcts.py
Repository lookup strips a trailing .git from both URLs before comparison. Tests cover either URL omitting the suffix.

Skip repositories without a URL during URL lookup.

If the gCTS response omits url or sets it to None, removesuffix() raises AttributeError before later repositories are evaluated. Filter non-string URLs before normalization.

Preserve the existing positional argument order for API compatibility.

No repository or documented direct API caller passes arguments positionally through error_exists; the CLI and tests use keyword arguments. However, an external caller using the previous signatures can pass error_exists=False positionally. The new parameters then bind that value to vcs_auth_user, leave error_exists=True, and can re-raise an existing-repository error.

Add the authentication parameters after the existing positional parameters, or make them keyword-only after the existing positional API, in all three functions. This is an external API compatibility risk, not a major in-repository failure.

Isolate VCS environment variables in the clone tests.

If the test runner sets SAPCLI_GCTS_VCS_TOKEN, this patch preserves it. _resolve_vcs_auth then rejects the injected basic credentials, and test_clone_vcs_auth_from_env fails. The token tests have the inverse problem with ambient basic credentials. Clear all three VCS variables for these tests before adding the values each test needs.

Source: Coding guidelines

Add --vcs-auth-user and --vcs-auth-pwd to 'gcts clone', mapped to the
gCTS repository config keys CLIENT_VCS_AUTH_USER and CLIENT_VCS_AUTH_PWD,
following the existing --vcs-token / CLIENT_VCS_AUTH_TOKEN pattern.

User experience:
- token auth and basic auth are mutually exclusive
- a password cannot be passed without a username
- a username without a password is prompted for once (and fails when no
terminal is available, e.g. in CI)
- the user and password can also be provided via the environment
  variables SAPCLI_GCTS_VCS_AUTH_USER and SAPCLI_GCTS_VCS_AUTH_PWD
Allow the 'gcts clone' authentication token to be provided via the
SAPCLI_GCTS_VCS_TOKEN environment variable, consistent with the
SAPCLI_GCTS_VCS_AUTH_USER / SAPCLI_GCTS_VCS_AUTH_PWD variables. The
--vcs-token command line option takes precedence over the environment
variable.
I do not see any need to compare the URL with suffixes.
Users sometimes copy URL with .git and sometimes without.
The git client cuts the .git suffix and so we will do too.
