What's new:

  • Mail Bridge design - locked view, enabled or disabled.
  • Determine if the user has mail enabled or not, depending on the user tier - PR has been merged on swift-core package.
  • Service that we will need to refactor when wiring the daemon with the client.
  • Small refactor in FeaturesService for fetchFeaturesStatus function and caching the mail status (enabled or disabled).

Is this to protect the mailbox within the local environment of the customer?

Yep. The daemon exposes IMAP/SMTP on 127.0.0.1 only, and this password is what the user's mail client (Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc.) uses to authenticate against it. Without it, any local process could connect to the bridge port and read the already-decrypted mailbox.

Every IMAP/SMTP connection does a LOGIN/AUTH with the username (the user's email) and this randomly generated password, so the daemon validates the client before serving any mailbox data.
