In a ETP dedicated sampling it may happen that for the same trip and haul sampled, the observer reports two specimens of the same species, one alive and another dead.
However, in table SA SpecimenState is not a Unique Key variable. Is this rigth?
I understand that this solution can work as a shortcut. But for the longer term, don't you think that it makes sense to include SpecimenState as Unique Key? (probably I am missing some other implications, but just to confirm)
It is suggested to insert 'Mixed' in the SAspecimensState, and then in the BV table use 'SpecimenState' in the BVtypeMeasured and have one record with 'alive' and another record with 'dead' in the BVvalueMeasured. Would that work?
Hi, I guess both solutions can work (stratification and using BVtypeMeasured).
However, as generaly we don't use the BV table for ETP species, I think that maybe it is better to stratify in dead/alive, and keep all the information in SA. Otherwise there will be some few registers with counts in BV table and that will make the analysis of the data more difficult and prone to errors,
It woud be useful to include the indication in the documentatiom, so that everybody uses a common approach as much as possible.

would it work if you stratify the species into live and dead?

I guess so. Thanks
