Fedora installation instructions recommend dnf install task, which installs Taskwarrior and ssl certificate while Installing go-task #3052
Description
Description
Fedora installation instructions recommend task, which installs Taskwarrior
I'm using Fedora 44 and followed the Fedora installation instructions from the Task website.
The documentation recommends:
sudo dnf install taskHowever, on Fedora this installs Taskwarrior, not Go Task.
The installed package is:
task-3.4.2-3.fc44
which is the Taskwarrior package.
The correct package for Go Task on Fedora appears to be:
sudo dnf install go-taskThis is the package I expected the documentation to recommend.
The current package-name collision is particularly confusing because both projects expose a binary named task.
Additional issue with go-task
When I tried installing the correct Fedora package:
sudo dnf install go-taskDNF attempted to refresh the Task Cloudsmith repositories and failed with:
Curl error (77): Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?)
error adding trust anchors from file: /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt
The affected repositories are:
task-task
task-task-noarch
task-task-source
For example:
https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/task/task/rpm/fedora/44/
The error occurs while loading repository metadata.
Environment
- Fedora 44
- x86_64
- DNF
- Task repository: Cloudsmith
- Go Task package:
go-task - Taskwarrior package:
task
Steps to reproduce
Install the package currently recommended by the Fedora instructions:
sudo dnf install taskThis installs Taskwarrior instead of Go Task.
Then try installing the Go Task package:
sudo dnf install go-taskDNF attempts to refresh the Task Cloudsmith repositories and reports:
Curl error (77): Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?)
error adding trust anchors from file: /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca-bundle.crt
Suggested documentation change
For Fedora, explicitly recommend:
sudo dnf install go-taskinstead of:
sudo dnf install taskor otherwise make the distinction between the task (Taskwarrior) and go-task (Task runner) packages clear.
The current package-name collision makes the Fedora installation instructions easy to misinterpret.

Hi !
No, the documentation recommends:
cf: https://taskfile.dev/docs/installation#dnf
This is the community package (cf: https://taskfile.dev/docs/installation#fedora-community). We won't recommand a community package we don't control.
Indeed Cloudsmith has an issue with Fedora 44. You can find the workaround here #2821
For the next time, please do not open an issue only written with an AI. And please, search for an existing issue first

I am sorry, I just used AI. This is probably my first time opening an issue, but I don't think I got my point across properly.
As you can see it installed taskwarrior instead of Taskfile

Like I said in my previous message, you can follow the workaround for Fedora 44 in #2821
If you do not do it, It'll fallback to the main repository which resolve to taskwarrior
