Summary

  • Remove "postinstall": "tsc || exit 0;" from the published package/package.json. The package does not ship its tsconfig.json, so in a consumer's node_modules tsc resolved the app's tsconfig.json: it type-checked the whole app on every install and, with an emitting config, wrote .js files next to the app's sources. npm 11 also flagged the package under allowScripts.
  • Keep the contributor experience: lib/ is still built after a fresh clone (example/app.plugin.js requires lib/plugin/index.js), now from a postinstall in the private monorepo root, which is never published.
  • Drop the root trustedDependencies: ["react-native-pay"] entry. It names no existing package, so it had no effect.
  • Add a changelog entry under Unreleased.

Closes #9

Test plan

  • Consumer install: npm pack from this branch, then npm install --foreground-scripts of the tarball into an empty project with typescript@5, an emitting tsconfig.json and src/app.ts. No files are created in src/, npm reports no install scripts, and the published manifest has no lifecycle scripts.
  • Baseline for comparison: the same install of the published 0.0.17 tarball ran tsc and created src/app.js, with an allow-scripts warning.
  • Contributor install: after removing all node_modules, package/lib and package/tsconfig.tsbuildinfo, a fresh bun install builds package/lib, and example/ loads @gmisoftware/react-native-pay/app.plugin.js.
  • The tarball still contains lib/ (40 files).
  • cd package && bun run typecheck: passes.
  • cd package && npx eslint "**/*.{js,ts,tsx}" (without --fix): no problems.
  • cd package && bun run test:ci: 5 suites, 28 tests pass.
  • cd example && bunx expo run:ios / run:android: not run. No native code changed.
  • bun run docs:build: not run. No docs changed.

Risk

  • Consumers: none expected. The script was a no-op for them at best, and prepack already rebuilds lib/ before publishing.
  • Contributors using a plain npm install or yarn at the root: they now rely on the root postinstall, which runs for the root package under npm, yarn and bun.

Notes

  • A prepare script was tried first. It does not run for registry or tarball installs, but npm 11 still lists it under allowScripts as an install script, so it would keep tripping install-script policies. That is why the build moved to the monorepo root instead.
  • The stale tsconfig.tsbuildinfo problem (an incremental tsc silently skipping the lib/ build) is unchanged here. It is tracked in Add native unit tests and native build jobs to CI #22.
  • Needs a patch release to reach consumers.

The published package.json had `"postinstall": "tsc || exit 0;"`. The
package does not ship its tsconfig.json, so in a consumer's node_modules
tsc resolved the app's own tsconfig.json: it type-checked the whole app
on every install and, with an emitting config, wrote .js files next to
the app's sources. npm 11 also flags the package under allowScripts.

Remove the script from the published manifest. Contributors still need
lib/ after a fresh clone (example/app.plugin.js requires
lib/plugin/index.js), so build it from the private monorepo root's
postinstall instead. A `prepare` script was not enough: npm still lists
it as an install script for tarball installs.

Also drop the root `trustedDependencies` entry: it named
`react-native-pay`, which matches no package, so it had no effect.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Installing the published package no longer runs TypeScript checks in your project or risks creating unexpected JavaScript files.
    • Package installation is no longer affected by compilation failures in the consuming app.
  • Chores
    • The contributor build for the package now runs from the private monorepo root.

The package manifest no longer runs tsc during installation. The root manifest now runs tsc for the contributor build. The changelog documents the change and states that the repository build of lib/ still runs during bun install.

Explanation

The changes stay within Issue #9. They remove the published lifecycle script, remove the ineffective root trustedDependencies entry, preserve the contributor lib/ build in the private root package, and document the fix in CHANGELOG.md. The supporting changelog and contributor-build changes directly support the issue objective. No unrelated change is established.

Explanation

No functions found in the changed files to evaluate docstring coverage. Skipping docstring coverage check. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 0 functions across 0 files. (2 skipped: 2 unsupported.)

Full details: Security Check

Explanation

No medium-, high-, or critical-severity vulnerability is introduced. The diff removes the published package postinstall and removes the ineffective trustedDependencies entry. The added postinstall is on the private monorepo root (private: true) and only runs cd package && tsc; package/tsconfig.json targets the repository src tree and has no dynamic input, network sink, or unsafe execution path. The reported exit 0 behavior can hide a contributor build failure, but that is a reliability issue, not a qualifying security vulnerability.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #9 requires removal of the published postinstall, no install-script report during package installation, and a fresh clone that can run expo prebuild. The current package/package.json has no postinstall, and the reported tarball test supports the first two requirements. The root package.json keeps the contributor build in the private monorepo and removes trustedDependencies. The evidence reports that the example loads its plugin after installation, but it does not establish a successful expo prebuild run. The required acceptance result remains unverified.

Resolution

Provide reviewable evidence of a successful expo prebuild from a fresh clone after dependency installation. No further conclusion is possible for that acceptance criterion from the current evidence.
