Summary

I've been writing software professionally for 29 years, across enterprise application development, framework design, solo product delivery, and complex business domain modeling. I've built maintainable, sellable systems both independently — as the sole architect and developer behind a hospital pharmacy inventory platform — and as part of large, cross-functional teams, most recently on a modular loan servicing and origination platform. My deepest expertise is in C# and SQL Server, with a strong foundation in component architecture, reusable framework design, and translating ambiguous specifications into working software. I've worked in teams ranging from a single developer to forty-five people on one project, and in every one of them I've found that building rapport and communicating clearly with technical teams and end users is as valuable as any programming skill. Former member of TeamSybase, Sybase's expert end-user recognition program equivalent to the Microsoft MVP program.

Technical Skills

  • Languages: C#, SQL (SQL Server), legacy PowerBuilder
  • Platforms & Frameworks: ASP.NET, .NET, Blazor
  • Databases: Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase
  • Practices: Framework-level architecture, component reusability, business rules modeling, database-driven application design

Professional Experience

The Mitas Group — Programmer

Sep 2020 – Jul 2026

  • Contributed to a modular web application covering loan servicing, loan origination, accounting, and data migration across a multi-product platform.
  • Developed and maintained features in C# and ASP.NET against a SQL Server backend, working within a small team on a large and complex financial domain.
  • Advocated for and supported modernization initiatives including migration to Blazor, adoption of Git-based source control workflows, and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Worked across multiple functional areas of a business-critical application, building familiarity with the regulatory and contractual complexity of the loan servicing domain.
  • Built data import/export functionality across a wide variety of formats, including EDI and MISMO, along with numerous other text-based formats used by lending and financial partners.

Inventory Control Specialists, LLC (ICS) — Director of IT

Feb 2005 – Jan 2020

  • Designed and built a hospital pharmacy inventory management application from scratch as the sole developer, producing a complete, sellable commercial product.
  • Made all architectural decisions independently, including data model design, UI framework selection, and business logic implementation.
  • Delivered on-site customer implementations, managing relationships, gathering requirements, and resolving issues directly with end users at customer facilities.
  • Developed reusable framework components that formed the foundation of the application, prioritizing maintainability and long-term extensibility.

Rent-A-Center — Software Developer

Dec 2006 – Feb 2009

  • Maintained and enhanced an in-house appliance repair tracking and management system serving the company's retail operations.
  • Inherited and maintained a home-grown database replication implementation; proposed a migration to native database replication tooling, driving the design to the point of DBA team handoff.
  • Worked with data originally structured in a COBOL-era flat-file style within a relational database, navigating the impedance mismatch between legacy data conventions and modern domain modeling needs.
  • Took this role during a business lull at ICS, maintaining customer support responsibilities on a reduced basis; returned to ICS full time when business activity resumed.

Talyst (formerly autoPharm, later acquired by Swisslog) — Software Developer

Jul 2003 – Feb 2005

  • Developed inventory management software for hospital pharmacy environments as one of two developers on the product team.
  • Contributed to a small-team product with direct accountability for feature quality and delivery, working closely with the other developer to cover the full application stack.

Greyhound Bus Lines — Software Developer

Oct 2000 – Apr 2003

  • Maintained and enhanced a pay calculation application that implemented the rules of a complex union contract governing driver compensation across multiple work categories.
  • Developed skills in modeling legally ambiguous, frequently reinterpreted business rules as stable, testable software logic.
  • Responded to rapidly changing specifications driven by contract renegotiations and legal reinterpretation, maintaining application correctness under ongoing requirements churn.

3M — Software Developer (Contractor)

Jan 2000 – Sep 2000

  • Contributed to an enterprise reporting tool, developing skills in dynamic object composition and advanced SQL query design.
  • Delivered contract work on schedule within a large enterprise environment.

United States Air Force — Senior Airman (E-4)

Dec 1996 – Dec 1999 · Honorable Discharge

  • Served as a software developer, contributing to a 45-person team porting a large user interface system from COBOL to PowerBuilder.
  • Gained foundational experience in component reusability, large-team collaboration, and managing software delivery against customer expectations in a mission-critical environment.

Recognition

TeamSybase Member — Invited member of TeamSybase, Sybase's expert practitioner recognition program (equivalent to the Microsoft MVP program), recognizing highly skilled end-users who support and advance the broader Sybase user community.

Education

Associate of Applied Science — Computer Science (equivalent) Community College of the Air Force · Awarded in conjunction with United States Air Force service

29 years of continuous professional software development experience across enterprise, ISV, and government environments.
