Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Added end-to-end coverage for importing a private SSH repository when its devfile cannot be fetched. The test checks the devfile-fetch warning, successful workspace startup and project import, and the absence of restart or error dialogs and alerts. It also verifies that devfile content is unavailable in workspace details. The test skips when the cluster is disconnected.

📝 Walkthrough

Adds an end-to-end suite for importing a private SSH repository when devfile fetching fails. The suite checks workspace startup, restart-dialog absence, project visibility, and Devfile availability. Teardown removes the workspace and SSH keys.

Changes: Private SSH Repository Import

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configure SSH and import repository
tests/e2e/specs/restart-tests/AutomaticRestartFromLocalDevfile.spec.ts
The suite skips when the cluster is disconnected. Otherwise, it logs in, configures SSH keys, imports the private repository, and records the running workspace.
Verify workspace startup and contents
tests/e2e/specs/restart-tests/AutomaticRestartFromLocalDevfile.spec.ts
The suite checks the devfile-fetch warning, confirms the restart dialog does not appear during startup, checks for workspace errors, verifies project visibility, and checks for unavailable Devfile content.
Remove test resources
tests/e2e/specs/restart-tests/AutomaticRestartFromLocalDevfile.spec.ts
Teardown closes extra tabs, deletes the named workspace when available, clears tracking state, unregisters the running workspace, and removes SSH keys.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 7c7e8

The test can remove an existing SSH key, miss a restart dialog at startup, or leave a workspace behind after setup fails. Address these risks before merging.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 7c7e8

The test can delete existing SSH credentials belonging to its logged-in account, and an earlier teardown failure can prevent removal of the test credentials. A disposable, isolated test account would substantially contain these effects. No production implementation changes were found.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The new suite replaces account SSH credentials without verifying account isolation or credential ownership. If the session contains credentials belonging to another workflow, setup can permanently remove them; teardown can delete a subsequently changed credential or leave the test credential installed when an earlier cleanup operation fails.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated credential-mutation scope is the account represented by the active Che browser session. Repository permissions associated with the configured key and whether that account is isolated are not established, so broader service, tenant, or data-store exposure cannot be determined.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — The supported failure path is credential-integrity loss under an existing authenticated session: the test deletes a present key before establishing replacement success and does not restore it. This is an ownership and recovery concern, not an established unauthenticated exploitation or cross-tenant access path.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Credential changes use the authenticated dashboard and its deletion-confirmation flow. Normal teardown attempts removal. These controls constrain the mutation route but do not verify account identity or ownership of the selected credential; login accepts an already reachable dashboard as authenticated.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Use an explicitly verified disposable account for this credential-mutating suite, reject unexpected pre-existing credentials, and make credential cleanup independently retryable so workspace cleanup failures cannot bypass it.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Check the restart dialog after workspace startup.

isVisible() returns false when the dialog is not yet present. This assertion runs before the IDE-readiness wait at Line 109, so it can pass even if the restart dialog appears during startup. Wait for the workspace to reach the intended state before checking for the dialog.

🟡 Minor · Record the imported workspace before… · AutomaticRestartFromLocalDevfile.spec.ts:171-176

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Record the imported workspace before post-import setup

After import, waitAndSwitchToAnotherWindow(...) and obtainWorkspaceNameFromStartingPage() run before registerRunningWorkspace(...). If either operation fails, suite teardown sees 'undefined' and skips deletion. The failed-test hook uses latestWorkspace, which still does not identify the imported workspace.

Record the workspace identity as part of the import/name-registration sequence before these operations, or clean up the imported workspace from that sequence when setup fails. Changing teardown alone cannot recover a workspace whose name was never recorded.

PR looks good to merge, IMHO.

Empty Workspace test suite on minikube / pr-check failure is not related to the changes in this PR.
