Skill Update

Skill: skills/seo-audit

Summary

Adds a comprehensive International SEO & Localization section to the SEO audit skill. The existing skill had no coverage of hreflang, international canonicalization, multilingual sitemaps, locale URL structure, or content quality across locales -- all critical for sites serving multiple languages/regions.

New section covers:

  • Hreflang -- placement methods, checklist, common errors, scale considerations (10+ locales), Bing coverage
  • Canonicalization for multilingual sites -- self-referencing rules, cross-locale canonical dangers, canonical vs hreflang precedence
  • International sitemaps -- structure, size limits with hreflang math, Next.js self-referencing caveat
  • Locale URL structure -- subdirectories vs ccTLDs, content negotiation pitfalls, trailing slash consistency, deprecated GSC targeting
  • Content quality across locales -- Google's 2025 AI translation stance, thin locale page risks, helpful content system site-wide impact, crawl budget

Also adds a reference doc (references/international-seo.md) with 40+ source URLs from Google Search Central, John Mueller, Semrush, Ahrefs, Yoast, Search Engine Journal, and other authoritative sources.

Type of update

  • Bug fix
  • Improved instructions
  • Added references/scripts
  • Other

Checklist

  • Changes are focused and minimal
  • SKILL.md is still under 500 lines
  • No sensitive data or credentials
  • Tested locally with AI agent

Add comprehensive internationalization coverage to the SEO audit skill,
backed by 40+ sources from Google Search Central, John Mueller, and
authoritative SEO publications.

New section covers:
- Hreflang implementation (placement, reciprocal refs, x-default, scale)
- Canonicalization for multilingual sites (self-referencing, conflict rules)
- International sitemaps (structure, size limits, Next.js caveats)
- Locale URL structure (subdirectories vs ccTLDs, content negotiation)
- Content quality across locales (AI translation stance, thin pages, HCU)

Also adds:
- Multilingual/Multi-Regional site type to Common Issues
- references/international-seo.md with evidence and source URLs
- Version bump to 1.2.0
