[dmsdio 3/9] Migrate all existing dmdrvi implementations to API 2.0 #8

Closed

Description

@JaxCalder

Parent: #4
Depends on: #6

Goal

Complete the coordinated breaking cutover so the ecosystem has no mixed dmdrvi ABI.

Work

  • Locate every dmdrvi DIF implementation and direct consumer.
  • Update read/write/stat signatures, return handling, offsets, and documentation.
  • Migrate stream, frame, GPIO, memory, DMA, TTY, UART, SPI, Ethernet, clock, FMC, and application drivers.
  • Preserve existing semantics where offsets are irrelevant while validating the 64-bit argument.
  • Update module dependencies, generated manifests, tests, and examples.

Acceptance criteria

  • Every repository builds against dmdrvi 2.0.
  • No production implementation registers dmdrvi 1.x signatures.
  • Regression tests for existing drivers pass.
  • The release set is documented as a coordinated, intentionally breaking migration.

Done. Migrated every dmdrvi DIF implementation and direct consumer to the 2.0 64-bit contract (dmdrvi_offset_t/dmdrvi_size_t/dmdrvi_ssize_t, coordinated version bump across every DIF function).

    Implementations migrated (9 repos):

Direct consumer also migrated (found during hardware validation - not a DIF implementer, but dispatches to one):

Bonus fixes found and fixed along the way:

    • 4 of the 9 drivers (dmclk, dmuart, dmfmc, dmgpio) had a pre-existing _open() signature drift (missing the dev_num parameter) predating this cutover - fixed as part of the same PRs.
    • dmspi's CI never had a working host-side dmspi_port build; added a software-loopback stub (choco-technologies/dmspi, src/port/x86_64) plus CI fixes so its test suite actually runs.

Verified end-to-end on real STM32F746G-DISCO hardware: dmclk, dmgpio, dmuart, dmfmc, dmdma, dmeth, and dmtty all load and enable successfully post-migration; full boot log is clean (no API version mismatches), DMA hotplug, UART/tty, and Ethernet all come up correctly.
