Summary

  • Fix additive Android OpenCL packaging: keep Java classes in the CPU AAR, avoid duplicate classes, and build both consumers through R8.
  • Share configurable release-asset collection, signature reporting and serialized snapshot updates with the sibling Maven repositories. Include FFM, reactor CycloneDX files, native classifiers, Android publications and the source archive; preserve release metadata on partial uploads.
  • Fix source-mirror credential selection and error handling; disable persisted checkout credentials in release-upload jobs.
  • Fix RPC COMM_INIT peer binding and shutdown: preserve the configured bind address, cancel listener/connect waits, track peers before capability I/O, and remove potentially blocking wake-up connections.
  • Add six model-free RPC C-API regression scenarios; remove completed/stale TODOs and update release documentation.
  • Add the repository-specific CodeRabbit reviews badge supplied by the maintainer.

Validation already performed

  • RPC regressions against the old code: four failures and two successful controls; the same six cases pass after the fix.
  • Complete native C++ suite: 692/692 tests pass on Linux x86-64.
  • Focused RPC/C-API suite: 36/36 tests pass; the six new scenarios pass ten repetitions each.
  • Shared buildcheck suites across the four Maven repositories: 484 successful test executions; patch-validator tests also pass after the RPC change.
  • All twelve patches apply together to a pristine llama.cpp pin; patch verification, clang-format and REUSE pass.
  • Complete GitHub platform/consumer CI on this final branch, including Windows/macOS RPC runtime coverage.

The detailed red/green record is in docs/rpc-comm-init-regression.md.

Release notes

Android Central validation polling intentionally remains outside the upload build gate, following the maintainer's timeout decision. No release tag or deployment is performed by this PR. Actual mirror destination access and any optional Windows signing credentials must still be verified before release.

Cross-repository scope

Companion changes are on refactor/shared-release-checks in workspace, BitcoinAddressFinder, srcmorph, and streambuffer.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • RPC peer listeners follow the server’s bind address, and stopping the server interrupts incomplete peer setup.
    • Unreachable RPC servers now return failure results in affected operations instead of terminating the process.
    • The Android OpenCL package no longer duplicates Java classes from its CPU package.
  • Release Improvements

    • Release and snapshot downloads include llama-ffm and CycloneDX files, with artifact and signature checks.
    • Snapshot updates are serialized; incomplete collections preserve existing assets, and outdated runs cannot replace newer snapshots.
    • Android CPU and OpenCL packages are validated through consumer builds.
  • Documentation

    • Published Java artifacts include third-party license notices, alongside updated release and RPC guidance.

Keep Java classes in the CPU AAR and verify the additive OpenCL consumer. Collect reactor artifacts, FFM and signed CycloneDX BOMs for both publish paths. Serialize snapshot updates, refresh source tags and notes, and guard against stale or incomplete builds. Add regression coverage and update release documentation.

Walkthrough

This pull request changes RPC server behavior, Android AAR packaging, release publishing, source-mirror authentication, and third-party license handling. It adds RPC regression tests, release-asset collection and snapshot tools, and license notice resources in Maven artifacts.

Changes: RPC communication and server lifecycle

Layer / File(s) Summary
Dispatcher registration and failure handling
llama/patches/0015-rpc-embeddable-client-and-stoppable-server.patch
Dispatcher startup and lookup return failure values in selected paths. Device count and memory queries return zero values when the server is unreachable.
Cancellable RPC server and transport
llama/patches/0015-rpc-embeddable-client-and-stoppable-server.patch
The server tracks peer sockets, binds rank-zero listeners to the configured host, and uses cancellable accept and connect operations. Stop shuts down active clients and peers, and server shutdown releases backends.
RPC regression tests and documentation
llama/src/test/cpp/test_rpc_comm.cpp, llama/CMakeLists.txt, docs/c-api.md, docs/patches.md, docs/rpc-comm-init-regression.md, README.md, CHANGELOG.md, CLAUDE.md
Protocol-v8 subprocess tests cover binding, peer handshakes, stopping, and port reuse. Documentation and changelog entries describe the changed RPC behavior and test scenarios.

Android AAR packaging and validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
AAR classes JAR selection
llama-android/build.gradle.kts, llama-android/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml, llama-android/README.md, CHANGELOG.md, CLAUDE.md
AAR assembly accepts a classes-JAR provider. The CPU AAR uses core classes; the OpenCL AAR uses an empty classes JAR and obtains its Java API through the CPU AAR dependency.
CPU and OpenCL consumer builds
.github/android-consumer-test/app/build.gradle.kts, .github/android-consumer-test/README.md, .github/workflows/publish.yml, CLAUDE.md
The consumer build selects the CPU or OpenCL artifact with jllamaBackend. CI builds and checks release APKs for both configurations, including R8 retention and native library contents.

Release asset collection and snapshot publishing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Release asset configuration and collection
.github/release-assets.json, .github/release-assets.json.license, .github/buildcheck/releaseassets.py, .github/collect-release-assets.py, .github/report-asset-signatures.py, .github/buildcheck/tests/test_releaseassets.py
The collector validates its JSON configuration, discovers Maven projects, stages configured assets and signatures, and reports missing or empty outputs. Tests cover collection, staging, configuration errors, and signature gaps.
Release workflow collection and provenance
.github/workflows/publish.yml, .github/shared-files.sha256, docs/RELEASE.md, CHANGELOG.md, CLAUDE.md
Publish jobs use the collector, expose collection completeness, and include JSON assets in provenance subjects. Release guidance covers six reactor POMs, native artifacts, and CycloneDX outputs.
Serialized snapshot promotion and pruning
.github/buildcheck/snapshot.py, .github/update-snapshot.py, .github/workflows/publish.yml, .github/buildcheck/tests/test_snapshot.py, docs/RELEASE.md, CHANGELOG.md, CLAUDE.md
Snapshot updates compare commits and run metadata, upload available files, and promote release metadata or prune obsolete assets only after complete collection. Workflow concurrency serializes snapshot updates.

Source mirror authentication

Layer / File(s) Summary
Scoped mirror authentication and validation
.github/mirror-llama-source.sh, .github/buildcheck/tests/test_mirror.py, .github/workflows/publish.yml, CLAUDE.md
The mirror script validates the target repository and scopes Git authentication to the mirror URL. Remote lookup errors now fail.

Third-party license inventory and packaging

Layer / File(s) Summary
License review and inventory scope
.fossa.yml, THIRD_PARTY.md, docs/dependency-license-review.md, CLAUDE.md
New files describe license-review rules, evidence, and repository notice handling.
Runtime dependency legal-file collection
.github/collect-third-party-licenses.py
The script collects recognized legal files from runtime JARs and writes an inventory containing artifact digests and legal-file paths.
Maven artifact notice resources
llama-atmosphere-agent/pom.xml, llama-ffm/pom.xml, llama-kotlin/pom.xml, llama-langchain4j/pom.xml, llama/pom.xml
The modules package their main resources and include the repository LICENSE and THIRD_PARTY.md under artifact-specific META-INF paths.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 2ecbd

The remaining risks are limited to unintended artifact collection and incomplete regression coverage, so the PR is broadly mergeable after those fixes.

Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to 2ecbd

Incomplete snapshot publication can replace a binary while retaining its previous signature and source description. RPC listener isolation and mirror credential handling improve, but the publication changes leave a material consistency risk for consumers.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: An incomplete snapshot update can persistently replace an artifact while retaining its previous detached signature and source metadata. The collector copies artifacts and signatures independently; the publisher uploads available files with --clobber before checking completeness, then returns without pruning or rollback. For an existing snapshot filename, a missing replacement signature leaves the old signature beside new bytes. Unlike the base's successful-upload pruning path, the new incomplete terminal state deliberately retains that stale signature. This weakens release-integrity and recovery guarantees, although a consumer performing cryptographic verification would reject the pair.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The identified publication inconsistency affects assets on the configured repository's rolling GitHub release, potentially across repeated Maven, native, and Android snapshot filenames. This helper does not publish those mutations to Maven Central. The failure requires an authorized publication attempt or partial build output; an arbitrary external upload path is not established.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A partial collection containing a replacement artifact but no replacement signature can overwrite the existing remote artifact and terminate before deleting its old signature. Consumers then encounter an invalid artifact/signature pair beneath unchanged source metadata. This establishes an integrity and availability concern, not a demonstrated ability to forge signatures or bypass verification.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Mirror authentication now validates the GitHub repository name, scopes the authorization header to the selected mirror URL, clears inherited URL-specific credential configuration, and passes the header through the environment rather than command arguments. Both mirror checkouts disable persisted credentials, and the mirror token is supplied only to the push step.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Snapshot tests assert that incomplete collections do not advance metadata or prune assets. Their upload substitute records calls without modelling remote artifact bytes and signature pairs, so those assertions do not establish preservation of the previously valid remote collection.

Isolate the subtests so the orphan case is tested on its own.

The first subtest writes an empty new.json.asc and never restores it. In the second subtest, new.json.asc is therefore still empty. That alone makes publish report an incomplete collection. The orphan.jar.asc subtest passes even if orphan detection in signature_gaps regresses.

Restore a valid signature at the start of each subtest. Give the orphan a nonempty body so that only the orphan condition triggers. Clear self.gh.calls between subtests.

Regenerate the .fossa.yml?repo digest with --write. The current value fails the shared-files job and blocks publishing.

The manifest line for .fossa.yml?repo does not match the checker's computed hash. The proposed value is the raw sha256sum .fossa.yml digest, which the checker does not use. Entries ending in ?repo are hashed after the repository name is replaced with {repo}, so the raw file digest is not the expected value.

The failing mismatch makes check-shared-files.py exit with status 1. That fails the shared-files job. The publish jobs list shared-files in needs, so they do not run.

Run this from the repository root, then commit the updated manifest:

python3 .github/check-shared-files.py --write

Only the .fossa.yml?repo line should change. If other lines change, check those files before committing.

Reject executable and archive suffixes in legal_file.

The predicate accepts LICENSE.exe, LICENSE.zip, and LICENSE.tar.gz, then collect() copies those entries into the runtime legal-file output. Add exclusions for .exe, .zip, .tar, and .gz. Do not replace the predicate with a broad format allowlist because legal material can use nonstandard suffixes.
