Prompt Section

## Prompt

```text
Your prompt goes here.
Use [PLACEHOLDERS] for variable parts the user should fill in.
Structure your prompt clearly with numbered steps or sections.
```

⚠️ Ground Your Prompt in the Sources

Every prompt must tell NotebookLM to take its content from the sources. Without it — especially in a pure visual-style template — the model reads your prompt body as the brief and produces something about the prompt instead of about your material.

Open the prompt with a short grounding block:

GROUNDING — read this first:
Use my selected sources as the only subject matter. Every claim, figure, name and example must
come from them; add nothing from outside knowledge and invent nothing.
Everything below this line describes ONLY the visual style and structure of the output. It is not
the topic — never present, explain or refer to the style guide itself.

If your prompt has [FILL IN] slots, also state what should happen when one is left unfilled — otherwise the model asks you to fill it in, or copies the bracket text into the output.

node scripts/lint-templates.js enforces both rules.

Adding a Hungarian Translation

Create the same file under templates/hu/ with the same filename but translated name: and prompt text. The build script will automatically pick it up.

Rebuilding

node scripts/build-templates.js
# Then reload the extension: chrome://extensions/ → 🔄

📦 Releases

[v1.6.1] — 2026-08-02

  • ⛓ Chains never got past their first step — the runner asked for the composer's submit button in the one-second window where NotebookLM had not yet restored it
  • 🌐 Language picker, About and New Prompt tooltips were hardcoded English in every language

[v1.6.0] — 2026-08-02

  • 📐 Collapsible format rail — icon column that opens on hover/focus or pins open; replaces the cramped horizontal tab strip
  • Two-column card grid and sticky filters — only the results scroll
  • Live per-format result counts on the rail
  • 🌐 Globe icon beside the language picker

[v1.5.0] — 2026-08-02

  • ⛓ Prompt chains — several prompts sent into the same chat in order, each building on the answers before it. Steps can be existing prompts or one-offs; variables are filled once before the run.
  • 🇭🇺 Chains showed English prompts and variable names on non-English interfaces
  • 🇭🇺 17 Hungarian templates still carried English placeholder tokens

[v1.4.3] — 2026-08-02

  • 🌐 Switching language on the NotebookLM page reverted to English for every language except Hungarian

[v1.4.2] — 2026-08-02

  • 🈳 Five UI strings added in v1.4.1 were missing from all ten translated locales — they would have shown as "undefined"
  • 🛡️ Missing translations now fall back to English instead of breaking the interface

[v1.4.1] — 2026-08-02

  • 💾 Custom prompts beyond the fourth were silently lost — the sync quota was hit and the failure swallowed. Now ~40 sync cleanly, and nothing is ever lost even when sync fills up.
  • 🙈 Hide built-in templates you have replaced with your own version
  • 📐 Wider popup, 520 → 720 px

[v1.4.0] — 2026-08-02

  • 🌍 Ten new languages — Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Hindi and Russian, alongside English and Hungarian
  • 📝 Prompt bodies are translated too, not just labels — a prompt you cannot read is one you cannot adapt
  • 🈁 Language picker in the popup header, languages shown under their own names
  • 🐛 The injected UI used to crash outright in any language beyond EN/HU

[v1.3.1] — 2026-08-02

  • 🎯 Apply from the popup went to the chat box regardless of format — an Audio Overview brief or a Configure Chat persona all landed in chat. Apply now opens the panel that matches the prompt and writes into its field.
  • 🔤 Card previews show the prompt again instead of the grounding boilerplate
  • ℹ️ The About panel showed "Version 1.0" since the first release — it now reads the real version from the manifest

[v1.3.0] — 2026-08-02

  • 🚨 Fixes the "Gemini Notebook" migration — NotebookLM moved to notebook.google.com, which left the extension completely inactive. Both domains are now supported.
  • 🛠️ Rewritten Studio detection for the rebuilt dialogs: configurable-form-dialog, report-customization-dialog, and configure-notebook-settings
  • 🎬 Video Overview, Reports (both paths), and Configure Chat inject correctly again
  • ⚡ Mutation observer throttled to one scan per frame — no more constant re-scanning on the new UI
  • 📝 Popup Apply now targets an open Studio dialog when one is present
  • ✍️ Placeholder filler panel — Studio generates in one shot and never asks, so unfilled [SLOTS] used to be sent to the model as-is. Templates with slots now show a small fill-in form before you hit Generate.
  • 🎯 All 229 templates are now source-grounded — 48% of them previously never mentioned the sources, so NotebookLM answered the prompt instead of your material. The visual-style templates (slides, infographics, video) were the worst offenders.
  • 💾 Your saved prompts carry over untouched. They live in extension storage, not in the website, so the domain move does not affect them. A migration bug that could discard synced prompts was also fixed.

ℹ️ Studio panels only exist in notebooks you own — shared and featured notebooks have no Studio, so no dropdown is injected there.

[v1.2.0] — 2026-02-28

  • 🎨 6 new Infographic visual style templates (EN + HU): Expressive Cubist Abstract, Geometric Mosaic, Mixed-Media Expressionist, Hybrid Conceptual Collage, Dark Neo-Noir, Brutalist Editorial
  • 📖 HU: Manga Comic infographic — 4 variants (classic B&W, shōnen action, editorial, chibi)
  • ✨ Expanded slide-deck & visual-style prompts (8 styles, EN + HU): single-line descriptions replaced with detailed YAML design specs (color palettes, typography, layout variations, design rules)
  • 📊 Template count: 217 → 229

[v1.1.0] — 2026-02-25

  • ✨ Cross-Device Sync: Saved prompts and language settings are now synchronized across all devices via Chrome sync storage.
  • 🔄 Data Migration: Automatic migration of locally saved prompts to the cloud on first run.
  • 🛠️ Refactored Selectors: Language-agnostic selectors for all Studio cards (Audio, Video, Slides, Quiz, etc.) and chat customization.

[v1.0.3] — 2026-02-24

  • 🐛 Fixed malformed inline SVG in the floating Buy Me a Coffee widget, replacing it with the official BMC image logo to resolve console parsing errors
  • ✨ Replaced the external BMC script widget with a native DOM injection to completely bypass NotebookLM's strict Content Security Policy (CSP)

[v1.0.0] — 2026-02-24 · Initial Release

  • ✅ 216 prompt templates (108 EN + 108 HU)
  • ✅ Studio panel injection for all 10 NotebookLM formats
  • ✅ Custom prompt CRUD
  • ✅ Auto dark/light mode
  • ✅ EN / HU bilingual interface
  • ✅ Build tooling with CRLF normalization and ##-safe extraction
  • ✅ About panel with developer info
