feat(admin): add a root-only database studio tab - #236
Conversation
Staff panel → Database lists the site's databases (province.db, this site's CoreProtect, the Precedent/patch notes Postgres) and opens each in a studio: a table sidebar with columns and row estimates, query and table tabs, paged and sorted table browsing, a results grid with a cell inspector and CSV export. Reads run on connections that cannot write, stop at 1,000 rows and have time limits; CoreProtect goes through the guarded reader with a 3-second budget and is never written. Root may edit the site and Postgres databases after a confirmation, except the audit log. Every browse, query and edit is audited with its SQL. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

- Around line 155-162: Update the authoriser’s `check` function to deny
`SQLITE_TRANSACTION` for user statements. Disable the authoriser before `_site`
performs its internal `COMMIT` and before the exception handler performs
`ROLLBACK`, so both transaction-control operations remain allowed.
Review comments at @frontend/lib/admin/database.ts:
- Around line 76-79: Update toCsv so string cells beginning with =, +, -, @,
tab, or CR are prefixed with a single quote before CSV escaping; leave numeric
cells unchanged. Apply this sanitisation to row values while preserving the
existing field escaping and column-header handling.

…se studio Typed symbols such as ▶ turned into emoji on some devices; the studio now draws its icons. One click on a table opens it in a reusable italic preview tab; a double click, or paging, sorting or filtering in it, keeps it open. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Sol and CodeRabbit review of #236: - Refuse multiple statements and transaction or session control before connecting, so a Postgres read can no longer COMMIT out of its read-only transaction and an edit cannot end the studio's own. - Postgres reads run through a server-side cursor: one query only, and the row cap now also caps memory. - SQLite edits cannot create triggers (a stored trigger could later forge audit rows), change pragmas or use writable_schema; VACUUM, ATTACH and COPY are refused. - The studio drops browse and query responses that a newer request replaced, and each table tab keeps its own WHERE filter. - CSV exports neutralise text a spreadsheet would run as a formula. Quick loads (most take a millisecond) flashed a dot on the tab and a Running… note, and the SQL line under a table tab vanished, shifting the grid. The dot is gone, the note and a thin bar only appear after 300 ms, current rows stay (dimmed after the same delay) while a new page or sort loads, and the SQL line keeps its place. …edits Sol's second review of #236: - A carriage return ends a Postgres line comment, which hid extra statements from the text check. Postgres statements now go through psycopg 3's extended protocol, so Postgres itself refuses several commands: reads use a server-side cursor, edits are parsed as one unnamed statement before they run. The text check also ends comments at a carriage return. - Edits cannot create or drop indexes on the audit log, and every edit is logged as requested before it runs. - Opening the list and a database's tables is audited. Tests against a real Postgres run when STUDIO_TEST_POSTGRES is set. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…d sqlite_sequence Sol's third review of #236 (no blockers): - Edits run in psycopg 3 pipeline mode, so Postgres parses exactly the text it runs as one unnamed statement; the connection is pinned to UTF-8 so _check() sees the same text. - Edits cannot write sqlite_sequence, whose admin_audit counter could otherwise be maxed out to break every later audit insert. Backend: 13 new tests (root-only, read-only enforcement, edits + audit, audit-log protection, ATTACH, masking, row cap, timeouts, CoreProtect schema/browse/budget, Postgres read-only transactions with a fake connection); 715 passed across auth/coreprotect/servers/rail/luckperms/dbstudio.
