HydroGuard AI -Water Risk Intelligence Platform

1. Overview

HydroGuard AI is an intelligent, web-based platform designed to analyse water quality data and generate actionable risk insights. The system transforms raw environmental measurements into meaningful information by combining machine learning predictions with World Health Organization (WHO) guideline comparisons.

The platform enables users to upload their own datasets and receive automated analysis, including water quality assessment, risk classification, compliance evaluation, and mitigation recommendations. HydroGuard AI is designed to be globally adaptable and accessible, particularly in low-resource settings where advanced analytical tools are often unavailable.

2. Key Features

  • Upload and analyse water quality datasets (CSV/Excel formats)
  • Automatic detection and handling of various parameter formats
  • Comparison of water quality parameters against WHO standards
  • Machine learning-based risk classification (Low, Moderate, High)
  • Clear and structured compliance reporting
  • Visualisation of water quality trends and risk distribution
  • Downloadable analysis reports (CSV and PDF)
  • Fully web-based, no installation required

3. How It Works

  • Users access the platform via a web browser
  • A dataset containing water quality parameters is uploaded
  • The system processes and standardises the data
  • Parameters are compared against WHO guideline limits
  • A machine learning model evaluates overall water risk
  • Results are presented through tables, charts, and summaries
  • Users can download a detailed report for further use

4. System Architecture

HydroGuard AI is built using:

  • Frontend & Interface: Streamlit
  • Data Processing: Pandas, NumPy
  • Machine Learning: Scikit-learn (Random Forest Classifier)
  • Visualisation: Matplotlib
  • Reporting: ReportLab (PDF generation)
  • Deployment: Streamlit Community Cloud

The system operates entirely in the cloud, ensuring accessibility without requiring local installations.

5. Input Requirements

Users can upload datasets containing water quality parameters such as:

  • pH
  • Turbidity
  • Temperature
  • Dissolved Oxygen
  • Electrical Conductivity (EC)
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
  • Nitrates, Phosphates, and others

The system is flexible and can analyse varying parameter sets, not limited to predefined inputs.

6. Output

The platform generates:

  • A structured table of all parameters and measured values
  • WHO compliance status (Within Limit, Above Limit, Unknown)
  • Risk classification for each dataset
  • Visual charts for interpretation
  • Downloadable CSV and PDF reports
  • Recommended mitigation strategies for identified risks

7. Target Users

HydroGuard AI is designed for:

  • Environmental scientists and researchers
  • Water resource managers
  • Government and regulatory agencies
  • NGOs and field practitioners
  • Students and academic institutions

The platform prioritises ease of use, making it suitable for both technical and non-technical users.

8. Deployment

HydroGuard AI is deployed as a web application and can be accessed through the link below:

🌐 Live Application:

No installation or configuration is required. Users only need a browser and internet connection.

9. Feasibility and Scalability

The current system functions as a working prototype demonstrating real-time data analysis and predictive capabilities. For real-world deployment, the platform can be enhanced through:

  • Integration with real-time sensor data
  • Expansion of WHO parameter coverage
  • Cloud infrastructure scaling for large datasets
  • Partnerships with environmental agencies
  • Validation using field and laboratory data

10. Limitations

  • The system relies on uploaded data quality and completeness
  • Machine learning predictions are based on simulated training data
  • Results should be interpreted as decision-support insights, not final regulatory conclusions

11. Future Improvements

  • Integration with GIS for spatial analysis
  • Mobile-friendly interface for field data collection
  • Advanced predictive modelling using time-series data
  • Automated alerts for critical water quality thresholds
  • Multi-language support for broader accessibility

12. Conclusion

HydroGuard AI provides an accessible and scalable solution for water quality analysis by combining data-driven insights with global standards. It bridges the gap between raw environmental data and informed decision-making, enabling users to quickly assess risks and take appropriate action.
