Closed

Description

@scamidge

What would you like?

I would like the option to have the tab bar show in zen mode.

What problem does it solve?

quick access to a different tab while in zen mode

Thanks for the idea. From v0.603.3, zen mode keeps the tab bar whenever you have a tab open, so you can switch notes without leaving zen. Everything else stays hidden as before, and with no tabs open zen looks the same as it did. Let us know if it works for you.

Follow up, we made the design of tabs more quiet / dess distracting in zen mode. Ships with the next update:

Thank you again for this idea. We built it, and while we were at it, we improved the tabs in general. Here is what changes in the next update.

    How tabs work:

    • Tabs are now on by default. You can turn them off in Settings > Appearance > "Show the open item in a tab".
    • Tabs work like in a browser: the tab you are on follows what you open. That includes a click in the list, J and K, search results, note-links and new notes.
    • Pin a tab to keep its note. Your next click then opens in a new tab, and that tab follows your clicks.
    • To open an extra tab without pinning, use right-click > "Open in tab", a middle-click, or Alt-click (Option-click on a Mac). The menu now shows this shortcut.
    • The previous and next arrows in the note header move between your tabs while tabs are open.

    How tabs look:

    • The tab bar is lower, so it takes less space above your note.
    • Pinned tabs are now just their icon, and they stay at the left when the tab bar scrolls.
    • The close button takes no space until you hover a tab, so titles have more room.
    • When the tabs do not fit, a small counter at the end shows how many are hidden. Click it to see them.
    • A tab that is cut off at the edge fades out softly, and it has no close button, so a click on it can only open it.
    • A cut-off title shows in full when you hover its tab.
    • In zen mode, the tab bar is quiet: only the titles, with a thin line under the open one.

Let us know how it feels once you have tried it next week with the update.
