None. Housekeeping ahead of a ruleset feature change, landed separately to keep that PR free of tooling churn.

Why is this change necessary?

This repo was generated from copier-base-template v0.1.10. v0.2.0 is current.

How does this change address the issue?

task copier-update to v0.2.0, then task prune-copier-rejects. Notable upstream changes carried in (both for this repo and for template/):

  • Biome (pinned, language: system hook) replaces prettier for JSON/JS/CSS. Config moves to .config/biome.jsonc and the VS Code extension is swapped accordingly.
  • CI tooling installer gains --install-pre-commit-tooling (pre-commit, identify, prek, Biome) and --install-copier. Workflows use --show-diff-on-failure.
  • bash-chain-guard.js hook and .claude/CLAUDE.md removed. AGENTS.md gains the public-repository rule.
  • post-review-comment.py added to the address-pr-comments skill.
  • uv, pnpm, faker and a few other version bumps. uv.lock updated for the new faker bound.

One conflict: template/README.md.jinja. The base's version of that file only dropped SKIP_PLAYWRIGHT_INSTALL=1 from a line this repo's project-specific README content already replaces, so the project content was restored verbatim.

What side effects does this change have?

  • Devcontainer rebuild needed (hash updated, Biome extension replaces prettier).
  • JSON/JS formatting now follows Biome rather than prettier.

How do we know this works?

  • Every pre-commit hook passes locally after installing the pinned Biome and the json5 module exactly as the devcontainer bootstrap does. CI re-runs the same hooks.
  • The 60 unit tests pass (CI runs them with --no-cov, as before).
  • README conflict resolution was checked by diffing the old base content against the new base content by hand.
  • Nothing local covers rendered projects beyond CI's instantiate-template job.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added support for posting inline pull-request review comments.
    • Added Biome formatting support for supported file types in development environments.
  • Improvements

    • Development tool installation now retries network-dependent steps, with clearer handling of timeouts.
    • Lock-only setup generates or updates the lockfile without installing packages.
    • Updated GitHub command permissions and repository privacy guidance.
    • Refined code review prompts and pull request verification guidance.

Pulls copier-base-template v0.1.10 -> v0.2.0: Biome (pinned, system hook)
replaces prettier for JSON/JS/CSS, prek and Biome join the CI tooling
installer, bash-chain-guard hook and .claude/CLAUDE.md are dropped,
pre-commit workflows use --show-diff-on-failure, uv/pnpm/faker bumps and
a new post-review-comment helper for the address-pr-comments skill.

template/README.md.jinja kept its project-specific content: the only base
change in that file removed SKIP_PLAYWRIGHT_INSTALL from a line our
version does not contain.

📝 Walkthrough

The repository and its Copier template update Claude settings, comment-posting tools, Biome formatting, and CI tooling installation. Related changes adjust workflows, dependency versions, lock-file generation, and repository guidance.

Changes: Claude settings and permissions

Layer / File(s) Summary
Hooks and command permissions
.claude/hooks/*, .claude/settings/*, AGENTS.md, template/.claude/*, template/AGENTS.md
The Bash command-chain guard is removed. Bash permissions change, and repository visibility guidance is added. Other hook behavior is unchanged.

Pull request comment posting

Layer / File(s) Summary
Comment prompts and posting utilities
.claude/skills/address-pr-comments/*, template/.claude/skills/address-pr-comments/*, copier.yml, .config/.copier-managed-files.json
Comment prompts include their context in AskUserQuestion. A shared utility posts GitHub comments, and a new script submits inline review comments.

Biome and formatting

Layer / File(s) Summary
Formatter configuration and hooks
.config/biome.jsonc, template/.config/biome.jsonc, biome.jsonc, template/biome.jsonc, .devcontainer/*, template/.devcontainer/*, .pre-commit-config.yaml, template/.pre-commit-config.yaml, .prekignore, .coderabbit.yaml, template/.coderabbit.yaml, .config/.copier-managed-files.json
Biome is configured for selected file types and replaces Prettier for most formatting. Prettier now targets Vue and HTML. Workspace setup can disable Biome in nested folders.

Tool installation and CI

Layer / File(s) Summary
Installer and workflow wiring
.devcontainer/install-ci-tooling.py, template/.devcontainer/install-ci-tooling.py.jinja, .github/actions/install_deps/action.yml, template/.github/actions/install_deps/action.yml, .github/workflows/ci.yaml, .github/workflows/pre-commit.yaml, template/.github/workflows/pre-commit.yaml, extensions/context.py, pyproject.toml
The installer adds retries, timeout process-tree cleanup, and conditional tooling installation. Workflow inputs enable Copier and pre-commit tooling. Tool and dependency versions are updated.

Supporting workflow and template updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Workflow, lock-file, and template metadata
.devcontainer/manual-setup-deps.py, template/.devcontainer/manual-setup-deps.py, README.md, .github/reusable_workflows/build-docker-image.yaml, .github/workflows/hash_git_files.py, template/.github/workflows/hash_git_files.py, .github/pull_request_template.md, template/.github/pull_request_template.md, .config/.copier-answers.yml, .config/.copier-managed-files.json, .prekignore, copier.yml
Lock-only mode passes --lockfile-only to pnpm. Docker SHA tagging is limited to default-branch ECR pushes. Hash recognition, pull request verification guidance, and Copier metadata are updated.

The new command permissions let an alternate hook configuration bypass the intended approval step when options are reordered. Tighten those rules before merging. The remaining issues are minor tooling and formatting gaps.

Prevent alternate prek configurations regardless of option order. prek run --all-files --config /tmp/hooks.yaml matches the new allow rule but bypasses these prefix-only deny rules. An alternate configuration can run a local hook command without the intended approval. (code.claude.com)

Restore HTML editor-formatting parity. Pre-commit still formats HTML with Prettier, but the changed devcontainer settings no longer provide that formatter for HTML outside the Vue template condition.

Guard the timeout os.killpg call against ProcessLookupError. A child process can exit after process.wait times out and before os.killpg runs. In that case os.killpg raises ProcessLookupError. That exception replaces TimeoutExpired, and run_with_retries does not catch it, so the install aborts instead of retrying.

official pnpm 12 documentation for pnpm ci and --lockfile-only compatibility

💡 Result:

**pnpm 12’s official docs describe these as separate commands/options:**

- [`pnpm ci`](https://pnpm.io/cli/ci) was added in pnpm 11. It runs `pnpm clean` followed by `pnpm install --frozen-lockfile`. ([github.com](https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm.io/blob/main/docs/cli/ci.md?utm_source=openai))
- [`pnpm install --lockfile-only`](https://pnpm.io/cli/install) updates `pnpm-lock.yaml` and `package.json` without writing to `node_modules`. ([github.com](https://github.com/pnpm/pnpm/blob/main/pnpm/docs/cli/install.md?utm_source=openai))

**Compatibility:** The docs establish that `pnpm ci` uses frozen-lockfile mode, while `--lockfile-only` is an `install` option. They do **not** document `pnpm ci --lockfile-only` as a supported combination. Don’t rely on that pairing; use `pnpm install --lockfile-only` when you want to update the lockfile without installing dependencies, and `pnpm ci` for a clean, frozen install.

Citations:

Keep ci out of lock-generation mode.

When --only-create-lock is combined with --optionally-check-lock and an existing pnpm-lock.yaml, the script sets env_check_lock and builds pnpm ci ... --lockfile-only. The repository pins PNPM 12.9.1. ci performs a clean, frozen install, while --lockfile-only is an install option. This combination can remove node_modules or fail instead of only updating the lock file.

Apply this change in both scripts:

`env_check_lock` condition that switches the PNPM command to `ci` so it does not
apply when `generate_lock_file_only` is true; lock-generation mode must retain
the install command and avoid a clean CI install.

Narrow the CI rerun statement in both templates.

The statement that CI reruns every suite on every push is incorrect. Duplicate push runs are skipped when an open pull request exists, and queue-branch pushes are excluded from the push trigger. Contributors could omit verification details for suites that did not run.

+ broken or the fix reverted (and how it was broken), and any part nothing covers. Describe what the tests prove, not only
+ that they ran. CI runs the configured suites for eligible pushes without an open PR, and for pull-request or merge-group events. A duplicate push can be skipped when an open PR exists. Re-running a suite only

Retain SCSS formatting in both hook configurations. The new Prettier filters exclude SCSS, while Biome does not format SCSS. SCSS files therefore lose their previous pre-commit formatter. (biomejs.dev)

  • .pre-commit-config.yaml#L120-L120: include scss in the Prettier file filter.
  • template/.pre-commit-config.yaml#L120-L120: make the same change for rendered projects.

Review comment at @.pre-commit-config.yaml at line 120:
Update the Prettier file filter at .pre-commit-config.yaml:120-120 to include
SCSS files, and make the same change to the corresponding filter at
template/.pre-commit-config.yaml:120-120 so both hook configurations continue
formatting SCSS.
