Summary

Brings the extension's graphics in line with the 2026 GemDB brand guidelines.

Slot Before After
Marketplace / Extensions icon (resources/icon.png) Purple-and-orange box Dark-mode favicon FAVICON-09: the gem on a blue gradient
Activity-bar / view icon (resources/gemdb-sidebar.svg) Traced box mark The gem in a single colour, with the right face at the source's 0.6 opacity so the two-tone mark survives VS Code recolouring it
galleryBanner.color #1E2A38 #0B0F38 (Core Purple)
Source art (not shipped) GemDB.png lockup, box GemDB_Icon.svg GemDB_Favicon.png, gem GemDB_Icon.svg, GemDB_Wordmark_Black.svg / _White.svg
  • scripts/render-icon.sh now uses sips to make icon.png from the favicon, which comes only as a raster. It used to render an SVG with rsvg-convert. The source is 1667×1668, so the script crops it to a centred square before scaling to 256. The .vscodeignore comment and exclusion list are updated to match.
  • Wordmarks over the gem lockup: the guidelines name the wordmark on its own as the primary logo. The gem is used here only as a small mark inside GemDB's own UI, which the guidelines allow.
  • Not brought in: the industry icon library (command icons stay codicons so they follow the theme), the gradients, grid, glass and social art (VS Code has nowhere to show them), and the Brain Freeze art (that belongs in GemTalk/brain-freeze).

Test plan

  • npm run lint && npm run format:check && npm run typecheck && npm run typecheck:strict
  • npm test: 898 passed
  • shellcheck scripts/render-icon.sh
  • vsce ls: only resources/icon.png and resources/gemdb-sidebar.svg ship. The source art stays out.
  • Previewed the icon, the sidebar gem and both wordmarks on light and dark backgrounds
  • In a real window (npm run dev:fresh), check that the activity-bar gem shows its lighter right face in both a light and a dark theme

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

The Marketplace icon is now the brand's dark-mode favicon (the gem on a
blue gradient), and the activity-bar icon is the gem as a single-colour
mask, its right face at the source's 0.6 opacity so the two-tone mark
survives theme recolouring. The gallery banner moves to Core Purple.

The favicon ships only as a raster, so render-icon.sh now derives
icon.png from it with sips instead of rendering an SVG with
rsvg-convert. The old lockup gives way to the brand's wordmarks, which
the guidelines name as the primary logo. All source art stays out of
the .vsix.
