feat(cli): redesign the contributor terminal workbench - #693
Current head 532f71db3: not ready to merge while full CI is pending.
Exact-head local native/API receipts and all four hosted native platforms pass.
Narrow/tall footers and the native observer's scroll regions have fail-before
regressions. Windows bare ConPTY proves neutral unknown-background rendering;
POSIX proves OSC detection and exact palettes; all-platform Go tests prove exact
palette rendering from detected-background messages. No platform is skipped.
Implement the human's contributor TUI design brief in the existing production workstream tui: visible navigation, generous instructions, exact locked context,
and truthful outcomes. This is not the earlier fictional prototype.
One measured shell: visible Ready/Mine/Submissions and supported detail sections;
two panes at >=100x24, sequential compact/plain views, contextual keys and page observations.
Instructions/criteria precede grouped terms and exact references. Context, Intake,
Guide, Submission and Findings retain their typed fields in readable groups.
Slate/cyan/peach semantic colors with light, no-color and ASCII/plain behavior.
Safe multiline prose; explicit guide confirmation remains scrollable and cannot
dispatch when hidden below minimum size. No synthetic progress or acceptance.
Existing design, CLI guide, roadmap and initiative reconciled in this PR.
Why It Changed
Hidden tabs and flat metadata made the implemented contributor reads difficult to
navigate. Reading work should not require scanning hashes before instructions.
Design Chosen
Extend the existing model and typed client; replace the old renderers in place.
The retained list stays outside the detail viewport. Row preview uses only loaded
facts; Enter remains a fresh exact-resource read. Semantic style and grouped detail
renderers remain small owners inside the existing TUI package.
Alternatives Rejected
No new TUI/client/navigation framework, polling, cached protected data, product
mutations, management workspace, automatic viewers or shell execution.
No decorative gauges, fake progress, or inferred checker-owned acceptance.
Scope Control
Allowed Files Changed
Existing TUI package, focused TUI/native observer tests, CLI/design docs, affected
roadmap and initiative records. The line budget is explained in the change record:
one renderer is moved/replaced, obsolete mixed specifications removed, and shared
shell behavior tested across implemented screens.
Files Outside Stated Scope
None. API/backend/request/download custody/dependency/workflow owners are unchanged.
Product Behavior
No Workstream product behavior changed.
Presentation and minimum-size confirmation safety changed; public contracts and
product mutations did not. The TUI still exposes only existing contributor reads,
inert CLI handoffs, and deliberately confirmed verified guide downloads.

Result Summary
Build, all Go tests, vet, race, links, Commitrail, whitespace and Ruff pass.
308 fixture terminal renders: 11 states, seven sizes, dark/light/no-color/plain.
These prove layout, not live backend behavior.
Exact-head binary native terminal/HTTP/proof suite: 94 passed in 151.81s,
no skips, failures or errors.
Signed public API + real isolated PostgreSQL read/revocation drill: 1 passed
on the exact final commit, 177.78s. Temporary DB cleanup verified. This is not
an external checker/intake/acceptance drill. One existing unknown-marker warning;
zero skips. Final binary hash was checked unchanged before and after the run: 47c9e64394a80efd97a749a44f1e19ef1a8b9ab9265f64884d09d46b66a44832.
Hosted Windows native job 121764249570:
35 proof tests, 57 native tests and install/upgrade/rollback/removal pass.
Linux, Intel Mac and Apple Silicon native jobs also pass in the same run.
Archive assembly and the complete CLI release-proof workflow pass. Full backend
CI remains pending; publication is deliberately skipped for this pull request.
Local running server: project picker, Ready/Mine and task/context/intake reads
exercised with the new binary. No production task mutation performed.
Acceptance Criteria Proof
Stable visible collections/sections, independent wide detail scrolling,
compact cell bounds and pure resize without requests.
Exact Context hashes/IDs/digests and decimal terms remain available.
Native hostile-text/bearer probes, refusal clearing and download guards retained.
Hidden-confirmation regression fails against the pre-fix owner and passes
with explicit visible confirmation; plain-separator and Context-hash mutation
probes also fail at their intended assertions.
Final pinned signed-API/PostgreSQL receipt and cleanup complete.
Guide assertions retain server order and selected exact metadata. Native tests
physically scroll to references and back instead of requiring all content on the
initial screen. Tab assertions use visible selected labels. No raw-history
substitute for protected-screen assertions.
Tests Removed Or Skipped
None.

CodeRabbit: not fresh for this head. Its substantive review on 568103052
raised two findings: narrow-but-tall footer overflow and Ctrl+C wording. Both
were repaired and both threads are resolved. A green rate-limited status is not
current reviewer approval. Fresh hosted Windows proof passes after correcting an
unsupported test-host OSC assumption; no product styling fallback was added.
CI And Gate Integrity
No workflow, lint/test/docstring gate, package script or dependency weakening.
Tests protect outcomes and failure boundaries; no removals or skips.
No new GitHub Actions or checkout configuration.
Remaining Risks
Terminal rendering varies by host/font. Fixture renders and Linux native PTY proof
do not substitute for the supported-platform hosted native matrix. No hosted
deployment, new binary release or full checker execution claim is made here.
Follow-Up Work
No new product surfaces in this PR. Contributor writes, contribution evidence and
other workspaces remain separately scoped. Human visual feedback should use the
production TUI, not a simulated task acceptance.

Human Merge Ownership
I can explain what changed and why.
I know what could break and accept the remaining risks.
The user explicitly approved this specific PR for merge.
The contributor TUI now presents existing reads and verified guide downloads through updated navigation, detailed content, and responsive layouts. The change does not add public operations or product mutations.

Summary
Presentation scope and contract .commitrail/initiatives/WS-CLI-001/*, docs/design/cli-terminal-experience.md, docs/roadmap_status.md
The initiative, design contract, and roadmap describe the presentation update, current workbench scope, and boundaries for existing operations.
Detail content and evidence cli/internal/tui/details.go, cli/internal/tui/text.go, cli/internal/tui/details_layout_test.go, cli/internal/tui/guide_findings_test.go, cli/README.md
Detail views format task, context, intake, guide, submission, and finding data. Prose rendering redacts tokens and escapes controls. Tests cover content ordering, selected-document metadata, and the distinction between findings and stored outcomes.
The TUI adds responsive panes, section labels, status and footer updates, and light- and dark-background styling. Tests cover bounded rendering, state-preserving reflow, and download confirmation when the terminal is too small.
Flow-Research/workstream issue 688 — The issue describes a remaining interactive journey for the read-only contributor workbench; this change updates the presentation of its existing collections and detail reads.
At intermediate terminal widths, navigation hints may be clipped or disturb the layout. Correct the footer and the conflicting quit guidance; the remaining risk is localized.

Explanation
The PR description follows the required template closely: it has the Change, Goal, Intent and Planning Context, What Changed, Why It Changed, Design Chosen, Alternatives Rejected, Scope Control, Product Behavior, Evidence, Acceptance Criteria Proof, Test Delta, Impact-Routed Reviewer Results, External Review, CI And Gate Integrity, Remaining Risks, Follow-Up Work, Human Review Focus, and Human Merge Ownership sections. It states the current head is not ready to merge while full CI is pending, and it reports commands run, results, hosted native matrix status, and unchecked items honestly. Minor gaps: the Commands Run and Result Summary are present but the Result Summary mentions 308 fixture renders while the PR objectives mention 132, and the Tests Added/Modified lists are prose rather than bullet items. The 'Files Outside Stated Scope' section says None, which is consistent with the template. These inconsistencies are non-critical to the overall completeness of the template.

- Line 176: Update footerText to wrap the final footer content to the terminal
width so long footer rows, including the quit hint, remain visible; ensure
reflow and renderFooter use that wrapped text so their height calculations
match. Add 40x24 coverage for a Mine detail and Guide view in
TestRepresentativeRenderBoundsAndPureReflow.
Review comments at @docs/design/cli-terminal-experience.md:
- Line 57: Update the undersized-terminal guidance to state that q exits outside
text entry and Ctrl+C always exits, matching the existing rule elsewhere in the
document.
