Been running some cases with Paraview 6.0.1 and Catalyst 2.0.0 and ran into some bugs:

  • explicit conversion of VTK_HEXAHEDRON to int32 is apparently required. I think Catalyst expects an int32 but VTK_HEXAHEDRON might be int64 and would throw an error:
file: /scratch/baconnet/software/pySEMTools/3rd_party/build/src/catalyst/thirdparty/conduit/conduit/conduit_node.cpp
line: 14592
message:
Node::as_int32() const -- DataType int64 at path catalyst/channels/field.vtkhdf/data/topologies/mesh/elements/shape_map/hex does not equal expected DataType int32

  • assign mesh_node field values via = instead of set(). This would work for the very first time step (when the dictionary key did not already exist), but threw an error the second time. I just changed to = and is seemed to work.
  File "/scratch/baconnet/software/pySEMTools/pysemtools/io/catalyst/insitu_visualization.py", line 139, in set_field
    self.mesh_node[f"fields/{key}/values"].set(fields[key].flatten())
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
AttributeError: 'numpy.ndarray' object has no attribute 'set'

Good news is that with those fixes everything works really well!
