Whole-file rewrites come back from the API without their final newline, so a unit-test script that tests on a linter's final-newline rule (RuboCop Layout/TrailingEmptyLines, ESLint eol-last, Ruff W292) would fail every fix round.

to disable text-mode newline translation, so the bytes written match the

Text mode turned each \n into \r\n on native Windows, so the file on disk differed from response_files and content already ending in \r\n was written as \r\r\n. store_response_files now writes with newline="" so the bytes on disk are exactly the normalized content on every platform.

Every file the client writes from an API response now ends with a newline.
What happens now
store_response_files, the one place server-returned files reach the disk, appends a newline to non-empty content that lacks one. Empty content stays empty,Nonestill deletes the file, and an existing newline is not doubled. The added newline is also written back into
response_files. The diffs taken after storing (the fix journal, and the conformance fixes handed to the unit tests fixer) compare that dict with the disk, so without the write-back every rewrite would show a spurious "No newline at end of file" change.Files are written without newline translation, so native Windows gets the server's line endings instead of CRLF.
Why it happened
Whole-file rewrites come back from the API without their final newline, and the client wrote them as received. Files patched with a diff kept theirs, so only rewritten files lost it.
A unit-test script that gates on a linter's final-newline rule (e.g. RuboCop
Layout/TrailingEmptyLines, ESLinteol-last, RuffW292) then failed every fix round: the fixer added the newline, and the next whole-file rewrite dropped it again. The rounds never converged, and the render ran out of attempts while the tests themselves passed. How I verified this
tests/test_file_utils.pyfailed first (3 failed), then passed with the fix. They cover a missing newline being added, an existing one kept, empty content staying empty,Nonedeleting, and a rewrite that drops the newline leaving the file byte-identical, so git and the build-folder hash see no change.A build folder created before this change keeps its missing newlines until a file is rewritten; that is a one-time change.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Noneresponse still deletes the corresponding file without changing the response mapping.
