What changed?

  • Dragging a selected text box, shape, or note across a page boundary now keeps that page above its neighbour, matching the existing image-drag behavior. Previously only images raised the page's z-order, so dragged text/shapes drew behind the next page.
  • Encrypt PDF now writes AES-256 (was RC4-128) with a random owner password distinct from the user password, so "no modify" actually holds once the file is opened.
  • Encrypt/Decrypt screens show the file's real display name instead of the raw URI segment (e.g. "msf:49918").
  • README screenshots refreshed (light/dark home, tools, settings, DOCX/XLSX editors) plus a short PDF-scrolling GIF, replacing stale pre-redesign images.

How was it checked?

  • ./gradlew :app:assembleFossDebug / compileFossDebugKotlin
  • Manual pass on an API 28 emulator: opened sample PDF/DOCX/XLSX, confirmed encrypt/decrypt screens show real names
  • Known limitations: cross-page drag fix verified by code inspection + the existing image-drag pattern it mirrors, not device-recorded

Checklist

  • Selected documents remain local; any new network behavior is explicit and documented.
  • Existing offline workflows remain usable where intended.
  • Light and dark themes, accessibility, and performance were considered.
  • Documentation and third-party notices were updated where needed.
  • No secrets, private documents, APKs, keystores, or build outputs are included.

Only image markups raised their page's zIndex while being dragged
across a page boundary. A text box, shape, or note dragged the same
way drew behind the next page instead of over it.
Replace the stale light/dark home, tools, and settings screenshots
with fresh captures, swap the old PDF/annotation stills for DOCX and
XLSX editor shots, and add a short PDF-scrolling GIF.
…le version in README

The automatic form/link scan on PDF open loaded the entire file into
PDFBox's in-memory model unconditionally, regardless of size. A large
scanned document (a few hundred MB of embedded images, no forms) OOM'd
right after opening. Skip the scan above 150 MB, and load through a
temp-file-backed buffer instead of the heap below that.

README: add Obtainium install instructions and badges, a GitHub
Trending badge, and fix the Download section still pointing at V4
2.0.0 (current release is V5.1 2.1.1).
