simple/check_release.sh sets up a Python environment with CPU-only PyTorch, downloads the release without its checkpoints, checks the downloaded files against release-hashes.txt and runs ovl.py verify. It takes about 2 minutes. The README's laptop check now uses it; docs/verify.md keeps every step by hand, and says how to avoid the multi-GB CUDA download of PyTorch on Linux.

The laptop check in one command:
bash simple/check_release.sh.It sets up a Python environment with CPU-only PyTorch, downloads
release/simple-run/without its checkpoints (about 330 MB), checks every downloaded file againstrelease-hashes.txt, then runsovl.py verify(hash chain, both timestamps, released weights). It ends with one line:OVL release check PASSorFAIL.git, openssland network access, but no longersha256sum, so there's no Homebrew step on macOS.pip install torchdownloads the CUDA build, several GB.Tested from scratch: about 2 minutes, PASS on the published release. A changed
chain.jsonlfails the hash check. Clean under shellcheck.
