Address book creation - public type index

Creating a public address book doesn't appear to add an entry into the public type index.

Hi Sharon, what does it mean to you creating a "public address book"? An address book is added to the private type index if an owner WebID is given. Under what circumstances should it be added to the public type index?

@angelo-v If address book is related to some group like family or any organisation you may want to be able to discover the address book link.
This is the case for https://solidos.solidcommunity.net where the link is public and prívate.

ok, so should there be an option in createAddressBook to descide whether to index it in public, private or both type indexes?

That is an interesting question. That relate to indexes management in general.
For example a chat index can be public or private.

There is nothing actually to delete indexes that point to an URL that does not exist anymore or create new entry.

I was assuming that when I use createAddressBook without an owner I'd that it meant it was a public address book and in that case should be added to the public type index. Perhaps having it defined as an option for instance providing a type options of either public or private would be good too.

I haven't looked at the code yet for acl, but I was assuming the acl would be created accordingly.

After our conversation I'm not sure how this should work anymore. What if someone doesn't want it written to their public index. Although I do feel like they should have the option of adding it if they want to.

I wonder if when a resource is deleted we should also look at the indexes and remove if found.

Note that the data module does not have access to any signed in user, so it cannot add it to a public type index without getting an owner.

Also, data modules in my understanding are not meant to manage ACL files because the data modules must not assume that the app has permission to manage access rights.

The whole topic of deleting things is very complex and underspecified. See for example solid/contacts#6

That's why the data module currently does not delete things. SolidOS for example only deletes documents and not address books or contacts.
