Description

I'm getting the following error when trying to access an item from database using rails console

can you provide any information about the server you are trying to connect? Specifically SQL server version and which authentication method you use.

The server is running Linux 5.15.0-76-generic #83-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 15 19:16:32 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

in my rails application I use host, username and password to connect and connected to same server using VPN

Sorry for the very late response.

Given this is quite an old SQL server version (on an outdated Windows NT version), what could potentially help is to set the TDS version to v7.0. If you are using the sqlserver-adapter, you can configure this from your database.yml as shown here. When using tiny_tds directly, pass it as an option when initializing the client. I've read through a couple of issues where setting the TDS version explicitely to v7.0 helped the people to connect to older instances.

You could also try to adjust your OpenSSL settings.

Please note that we dropped support for SQL Server 2014 and older with tiny_tds v3. You would have to use the latest v2 release in order to connect.
