From 6ad1e86bb866dd519008ab6a52a2ba8006b9479e Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: thde Date: Thu, 17 Sep 2026 09:34:52 +0200 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] refactor(auth): move kubeconfig machinery to internal/kubeconfig Building the kubeconfig entries (newAPIConfig with its options and the two exec plugin configs), merging them into the user's kubeconfig (login, mergeKubeConfig) and logging in to a KubernetesCluster were unexported helpers of the auth verb, which forced create to import auth for ClusterCmd. They now live in the non-verb package internal/kubeconfig as NewAPIConfig, Login and LoginCluster; auth keeps the kong commands and flag parsing and delegates to it. The exec plugin args need the name of the auth command, so the "auth" constant moves next to api.OIDCCmdName as api.AuthCmdName and auth.CmdName refers to it. The cluster login test moves with the logic; auth keeps a test for its name/project argument parsing. --- api/login.go | 1 + auth/auth.go | 4 +- auth/client_credentials.go | 21 +-- auth/cluster.go | 84 +----------- auth/cluster_test.go | 117 ++++++---------- auth/login.go | 186 +------------------------- auth/login_test.go | 15 +++ auth/oidc.go | 18 --- internal/kubeconfig/apiconfig.go | 163 ++++++++++++++++++++++ internal/kubeconfig/apiconfig_test.go | 119 ++++++++++++++++ internal/kubeconfig/cluster.go | 99 ++++++++++++++ internal/kubeconfig/cluster_test.go | 75 +++++++++++ internal/kubeconfig/login.go | 87 ++++++++++++ internal/kubeconfig/login_test.go | 101 ++++++++++++++ 14 files changed, 721 insertions(+), 369 deletions(-) create mode 100644 internal/kubeconfig/apiconfig.go create mode 100644 internal/kubeconfig/apiconfig_test.go create mode 100644 internal/kubeconfig/cluster.go create mode 100644 internal/kubeconfig/cluster_test.go create mode 100644 internal/kubeconfig/login.go create mode 100644 internal/kubeconfig/login_test.go diff --git a/api/login.go b/api/login.go index e60ea1fa..6b3e14e0 100644 --- a/api/login.go +++ b/api/login.go @@ -42,6 +42,7 @@ const ( TokenURLArg = "--token-url=" UsePKCEArg = "--use-pkce" CustomersPrefix = "/Customers/" + AuthCmdName = "auth" ClientCredentialsCmdName = "client-credentials" OIDCCmdName = "oidc" ) diff --git a/auth/auth.go b/auth/auth.go index b9f1a9e9..d528cb21 100644 --- a/auth/auth.go +++ b/auth/auth.go @@ -1,6 +1,8 @@ // Package auth provides commands for authentication and session management. package auth +import "github.com/ninech/nctl/api" + type Cmd struct { Login LoginCmd `cmd:"" help:"Login to nineapis.ch."` Logout LogoutCmd `cmd:"" help:"Logout from nineapis.ch."` @@ -13,4 +15,4 @@ type Cmd struct { PrintAccessToken PrintAccessTokenCmd `cmd:"" help:"Print short-lived access token to authenticate against the API to stdout and exit."` } -const CmdName = "auth" +const CmdName = api.AuthCmdName diff --git a/auth/client_credentials.go b/auth/client_credentials.go index 1250dcc6..0dc00254 100644 --- a/auth/client_credentials.go +++ b/auth/client_credentials.go @@ -7,12 +7,11 @@ import ( "os" "github.com/ninech/nctl/api" + "github.com/ninech/nctl/internal/kubeconfig" "golang.org/x/oauth2" "golang.org/x/oauth2/clientcredentials" metav1 "k8s.io/apimachinery/pkg/apis/meta/v1" clientauthenticationv1 "k8s.io/client-go/pkg/apis/clientauthentication/v1" - It now calls kubeconfig.LoginCluster directly. This also passes the command's own writer instead of the zero-value format.Writer of the constructed ClusterCmd, which wrote to io.Discard, so the "added ... to kubeconfig" and "logged into cluster ..." messages are no longer swallowed after `nctl create vcluster`. --- create/vcluster.go | 6 ++---- internal/kubeconfig/apiconfig.go | 32 +++++++++++++------------------- internal/kubeconfig/cluster.go | 5 ++--- internal/kubeconfig/login.go | 9 ++++----- main_test.go | 1 - 5 files changed, 21 insertions(+), 32 deletions(-) diff --git a/create/vcluster.go b/create/vcluster.go index 268cb336..5be4f6c8 100644 --- a/create/vcluster.go +++ b/create/vcluster.go @@ -7,8 +7,7 @@ import ( infrastructure "github.com/ninech/apis/infrastructure/v1alpha1" meta "github.com/ninech/apis/meta/v1alpha1" "github.com/ninech/nctl/api" - "github.com/ninech/nctl/api/config" - "github.com/ninech/nctl/auth" + "github.com/ninech/nctl/internal/kubeconfig" metav1 "k8s.io/apimachinery/pkg/apis/meta/v1" "k8s.io/apimachinery/pkg/watch" ) @@ -50,8 +49,7 @@ func (cmd *vclusterCmd) Run(ctx context.Context, client *api.Client) error { return err } - clustercmd := auth.ClusterCmd{Name: config.ContextName(cluster), ExecPlugin: true} - return clustercmd.Run(ctx, client) + return kubeconfig.LoginCluster(ctx, client, cmd.Writer, api.ObjectName(cluster), true) } func (cmd *vclusterCmd) isAvailable(cluster *infrastructure.KubernetesCluster) bool { diff --git a/internal/kubeconfig/apiconfig.go b/internal/kubeconfig/apiconfig.go index 9c7a70c5..04fcaab0 100644 --- a/internal/kubeconfig/apiconfig.go +++ b/internal/kubeconfig/apiconfig.go @@ -1,6 +1,5 @@ -// Package kubeconfig builds the kubeconfig entries nctl uses to talk to the -// Nine API and to Kubernetes clusters, and merges them into the user's -// kubeconfig. +// Package kubeconfig builds the kubeconfig entries nctl uses to talk to the Nine API and to Kubernetes clusters, +// and merges them into the user's kubeconfig. package kubeconfig import ( @@ -13,8 +12,7 @@ import ( clientcmdapi "k8s.io/client-go/tools/clientcmd/api" ) -// ClientCredentials are the APIServiceAccount credentials the exec plugin -// uses to obtain a token. +// ClientCredentials are the APIServiceAccount credentials the exec plugin uses to obtain a token. type ClientCredentials struct { ClientID string ClientSecret string @@ -32,8 +30,8 @@ type apiConfig struct { // APIConfigOption configures the kubeconfig built by [NewAPIConfig]. type APIConfigOption func(*apiConfig) -// OverrideName sets the name used for the cluster, context and user entry -// instead of the API URL host. +// OverrideName sets the name used for the cluster, +// context and user entry instead of the API URL host. func OverrideName(name string) APIConfigOption { return func(ac *apiConfig) { ac.name = name @@ -47,16 +45,14 @@ func WithCACert(caCert []byte) APIConfigOption { } } -// UseStaticToken authenticates with a static token instead of an exec -// plugin. +// UseStaticToken authenticates with a static token instead of an exec plugin. func UseStaticToken(token string) APIConfigOption { return func(ac *apiConfig) { ac.token = token } } -// UseClientCredentials authenticates through the client-credentials exec -// plugin instead of the interactive OIDC one. +// UseClientCredentials authenticates through the client-credentials exec plugin instead of the interactive OIDC one. func UseClientCredentials(credentials ClientCredentials) APIConfigOption { return func(ac *apiConfig) { ac.credentials = credentials @@ -70,10 +66,10 @@ func WithOrganization(organization string) APIConfigOption { } } -// NewAPIConfig returns a kubeconfig with a single cluster, context and user -// for the API at apiURL.
