Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Club is a club for students interested in computing and technology.

Purpose

The purpose of the ACM is to bring together computing educators, researchers,
and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources, and address the field's
challenges. As the world's largest computing society, ACM strengthens the
profession's collective voice through strong leadership, promotion of the highest
standards, and recognition of technical excellence. ACM supports the professional
growth of its members by providing opportunities for life-long learning, career
development, and professional networking. The ACM is all about advancing knowledge
of technologies together as a group instead of individually.

Group Overseer

Professor Weiss is the overseer of the group.

Our Group Participants

Anyone can come to the meetings if they want. The group is open to all students, regardless of
their major or background in computing.

How to Join

Anyone can attend the meetings, but if someone is interested in leading the group,
they must wait until someone graduates or leaves the group and then speak with
Professor Weiss about becoming a club leader.

Club Meetings

The club meetings help students learn more about computing and earn PD points.
Activities vary each meeting. Sometimes we host game nights with computing-related
topics; other times we run interactive events like Kahoot quizzes, or hold
discussions on computing topics. Our most popular event was when we built robots
for the school.

Notable Facts

Any student from any major can attend the club meetings and does not need to be a
computer science major. Attending provides 1 PD point. PD points are professional development
points that students can earn by attending events and activities related to their major.
Students are required to attend events and participate in activities that further their
development as a professional and carry a part of their grade.

What You Should Know Before Participating

Participation is completely voluntary. Students can try out a meeting, and if they
don't enjoy it, they don't have to return, but they are always welcome back. The
club has a supportive environment where members help each other with projects or
activities.
