From 2b80c0cfaefcd9781878082507bc0155fe059210 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Koray SIRIN Date: Sat, 24 Oct 2026 15:54:14 +0300 Subject: [PATCH 1/5] fix(ai): fence standalone AI prompts and mask profiler min/max by default The three standalone AI routes (describe-schema, explain, query-safety) placed database-derived text directly into the model prompt, so a table name, column comment or engine plan written by whoever can write to the database was read as the server's own instruction. Add a shared src/lib/ai/prompt-fence.ts that reuses the agent's fenceUntrustedContent envelope, and wrap the schema context, query and EXPLAIN plan of all three routes in it. The Data Profiler's AI summary sent a column's real min and max values, masked only where the results grid happened to mask them. Make the AI summary mask every column a masking pattern matches by default, decoupled from the grid's runtime toggle, and add MaskingConfig.aiSummaryMinMax so an operator can restore the grid's decision with "revealed". --- src/app/api/ai/describe-schema/route.ts | 3 +- src/app/api/ai/explain/route.ts | 24 ++++++------ src/app/api/ai/query-safety/route.ts | 18 +++++---- src/components/DataProfiler.tsx | 13 ++++++- src/lib/ai/prompt-fence.ts | 49 +++++++++++++++++++++++++ src/lib/data-masking.ts | 40 ++++++++++++++++++++ 6 files changed, 124 insertions(+), 23 deletions(-) create mode 100644 src/lib/ai/prompt-fence.ts diff --git a/src/app/api/ai/describe-schema/route.ts b/src/app/api/ai/describe-schema/route.ts index b3cff38738..aecd5ba5e5 100644 --- a/src/app/api/ai/describe-schema/route.ts +++ b/src/app/api/ai/describe-schema/route.ts @@ -3,6 +3,7 @@ import { createLLMProvider } from "@/lib/llm"; import { MAX_SCHEMA_CONTEXT_CHARS } from "@/lib/llm/types"; import { createErrorResponse } from "@/lib/api/errors"; import { guardRoute } from "@/lib/api/require-session"; +import { fenceForPrompt } from "@/lib/ai/prompt-fence"; export async function POST(req: NextRequest) { const guard = await guardRoute({ route: "POST /api/ai/describe-schema", bucket: "ai", request: req }); @@ -48,7 +49,7 @@ Format as clean markdown. The one exception is a column the -data masking configuration masks: in the standalone app the profiler decides that exactly as the -results grid does, for the same role and switch, and sends that column's two values masked (#1421); -the embedded workspace's profiler masks the built-in patterns (email, password, card, token and the -rest), in the summary it hands a host's `onDescribeSchema` too. Masking is applied in the +leave, and the legacy profiler's AI summary sends two per column. The summary now masks those two by +default (`maskAiSummaryValue` in `src/lib/data-masking.ts`): a column a masking pattern matches is +sent masked even while the grid shows it in clear, and only `aiSummaryMinMax: "revealed"` restores +the grid's own decision for the summary. The embedded workspace's profiler masks the built-in +patterns (email, password, card, token and the rest), in the summary it hands a host's +`onDescribeSchema` too.
