Showing sub-tasks in project views

I am having a problem showing my tasks in TaskNote Views. I'm hoping there is an easy solution and I don't need to find a different way of organising my tasks!

I am using top-level TaskNote projects as categories eg HomeLab, House, Car etc. I then assign tasks to these projects, or as sub-tasks to existing tasks. I have then created a view which is:

• Group by: projects
• Sort by: priorityWeight
• Filter: file tags does not contain archived

All works well. I see all my tasks with sub-tasks under the main tasks as I have Inherit set.

I then want to derive some views from this, where I only see one of the categories.

• Group by: none
• Sort by: priorityWeight
• Filter: file tags does not contain archived; projects contains HomeLab

This is where is goes wrong. I can see all my top-level HomeLab tasks and I can see that some have sub-tasks (the chevron showing on the left). But instead of showing the sub-tasks, it just says "No subtasks found". If I change Inherit to Show All, then I can see all my sub-tasks, but also my archived tasks. I was assuming that the sub-tasks would inherit the project from its parent.

My workaround is to create a new property called Categories and make sure that every task is set to one of my high level Categories/Projects. This causes a lot more friction in creating and managing tasks. Or (I have just tried) I can add a task to the top-level project and also its parent task. Still more friction though.

I'm hoping that I'm using the Projects field correctly but there is either a bug somewhere or I just need to tweak my settings somehow. Any suggestions?
