What's Project subtask filtering?

What does this icon do?

This is seen when I use a task as a project. Right Chevron icon expands the collapsed subtasks. folder icon (shown in the image) throws a toast message on top corner Project subtask filtering not available.

What is this feature and how do I use this?

I'm here wondering the same thing. I'm also getting 'No subtasks found' when I expand the chevron.

Adding my support for the answer to this question. I would love that button to allow filtering the subtasks by status, priority, scheduled date, etc., but throwing a toast message is not particularly helpful. :-)

Some examples I'd love to see:

• Hide completed subtasks
• Only show specific status subtasks
• Only show specific priority subtasks

Well, that didn't take long. I searched the code for "not available" and found these comments right before the toast message display:

So, I guess it's just an old remnant from the previous version? Filtering this view would be way better for my use case than using the base, since this view is multi-level (you can see all subtasks throughout the tree, not just one level at a time like the base). I guess I need to submit an enhancement request (unless I can find one that already references this TODO).

Ah, I thought? an update in the last month or so fixed this one, but maybe they just fixed the issue with my workaround/adjustment, which had looked really hacky until recently.

Make sure you've updated first, but the issue with the chevron/folder/subtasks can be at least partially fixed by going into the view options for that base, and toggling how relationships are inherited, maybe also by adjusting what properties are passed through. Here are some screenshots, but I might have adjusted other stuff, feel free to ask if this doesn't fix it

I know I had to delete the base files and regenerate them at some point, so give that a go if you've been adjusting settings, this is what I have set in my 'Projects' task property

Wow, thanks for the followup! I didn't know that I could display subtasks in the Kanban view in the base, so that's helpful. The thing I'm talking about is the "task card" that you can show at the top of the task note. Here's an example from my notes:

You can see how there are several completed tasks in this list. It would be amazing if I could click the folder icon that's circled in the screenshot to hide the completed tasks to clean up the view. I'd also be interested in being able to hide the 'on-hold' tasks. In this case they are all on-hold (because I'm waiting for the legal process to complete), but if I go up to the "Shut down house in Lake Charles" parent task, I've got plenty of active and on-hold tasks and being able to filter out on-hold would help me focus on the things I can move forward today.

The Kanban view in the base allows me to filter out the top-level subtasks that are finished, but it continues to show any subtasks to those tasks that are finished. I also really like the overall hierarchical view of the entire project I can get in the task card (rather than the column view in the base).

Does that make sense?

Ha! Perfect sense, this ground my gears too and I never figured it out, ended up just working around it. That PR you found sounds sweet, I'm gonna try the commit when I get a chance. Thanks!

Just to keep this thread informed, I found a pull request related to this functionality: Pull request 2033. Not sure how to tell when/if this request will be merged into the main code, but it looks like the intended functionality is only to show/hide subtasks, which is not what I was looking for. :-(
