Problem
The current “Prepare for offline work” feature downloads data only for the currently visible map area.
For field mapping, this is often not enough. After a full day of surveying, I usually return to the hotel and review my recorded GPX track from start to finish, adding and correcting OSM objects.
This means I have to continuously wait for map data, Notes and imagery to load while moving along the track, or repeatedly preload different map areas.
Proposed solution
Add a new option:
Prepare for offline work along GPX track
The user selects a recorded GPX track, and Go Map!! downloads all required data within a configurable distance (for example 200–500 m) on both sides of the track.
Data to preload
- OSM objects
- OSM Notes
- Satellite imagery (optional choice every time)
Benefits
- Smooth offline editing after field surveys.
- No waiting while reviewing long GPX tracks.
- Reduced mobile data usage.
- Especially useful for motorcycle, bicycle and hiking mapping where users survey long linear routes rather than a single area.
This would significantly improve the field mapping workflow compared to preloading only the current map view.
