Enhancement: Better anime season mapping using Kitsu/AniList metadata #564

Anime season mapping improvement (Trakt vs Anime metadata)

Description

Hello,

First of all, thanks for ARVIO. The application works very well, especially on Android TV.

I noticed an issue with anime metadata and season numbering.

Example:

  • My Dress-Up Darling
  • Rent-a-Girlfriend
  • Other seasonal anime

ARVIO displays the anime with a continuous season numbering:

Example:

  • Season 1 Episode 20

instead of the official anime structure:

Example:

  • Season 1 → Episodes 1-12
  • Season 2 → Episodes 1-12

Current behavior

Even when using Anime Kitsu metadata/catalogs, ARVIO still seems to use the Trakt/TMDB episode mapping.

This causes seasonal anime to appear as a single season with all episodes merged.

Expected behavior

For anime content, it would be great to have an option to choose the metadata provider/order:

  • Trakt/TMDB order
  • TVDB order
  • Anime order (Kitsu / AniList / AniDB)

Anime users usually expect:

  • Season 1
  • Season 2
  • Season 3

with the original episode numbering.

Possible improvement

Add an "Anime metadata priority" option:

Example:
Settings → Metadata provider:

  • Movies: TMDB/Trakt
  • Series: Trakt/TMDB
  • Anime: Kitsu/AniList/AniDB

Or allow anime catalogs to keep their own season mapping instead of forcing Trakt episode numbering.

Environment

Device:
Android TV / TCL TV

Application:
ARVIO

Addons tested:

  • Anime Kitsu
  • AIOMetadata

Issue reproduced with:

  • My Dress-Up Darling
  • Rent-a-Girlfriend

Thanks for your work!
