Diesel generates a type-safe Rust representation of a database schema at compile time, so many invalid queries — wrong column types, missing joins, selecting a column that doesn't exist — fail to compile instead of surfacing as runtime errors. Its query builder supports joins, subqueries, and raw-SQL escape hatches, while the `diesel_cli` tool manages schema migrations and keeps the generated schema file in sync.

19+
The MySQL/MariaDB backend is enabled through the `mysql` Cargo feature flag, alongside separate flags for the `postgres` and `sqlite` backends. Diesel is dual-licensed under the MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses and is one of the most widely used database toolkits in the Rust ecosystem.

go-mysql-server implements the MySQL wire protocol and a large subset of MySQL's SQL dialect entirely in Go, with no dependency on the MySQL server itself. Developers plug in their own storage backend by implementing a small set of Go interfaces for tables, databases, and indexes, and the engine handles SQL parsing, query planning, and execution on top of it — so any existing MySQL client, driver, or ORM can connect to it unmodified.

17+
It's maintained by DoltHub, the same team behind Dolt, where it serves as Dolt's underlying query engine. It's also used standalone to add a MySQL-compatible SQL interface to custom data sources, or as a lightweight in-memory MySQL server for testing. Released under the Apache 2.0 license.

Teleport's Database Access feature puts a proxy in front of MySQL (and PostgreSQL, MongoDB, CockroachDB, and other) servers so that users authenticate once with short-lived, identity-based certificates instead of static database passwords, connect through standard MySQL clients without exposing the database's network port directly, and have every session recorded for audit and compliance.
19+
20+
It's built around role-based access control and can enforce per-session multi-factor authentication and integrate with existing SSO providers. The core engine is released under the GNU Affero General Public License 3.0, with Teleport Community Edition builds distributed under a modified Apache 2.0 license, while Teleport Enterprise adds commercial features like access-request workflows and device trust — which is why it carries both an Open Source and Open Core pricing tag here.

TypeORM supports both the Active Record and Data Mapper patterns, letting teams either call persistence methods directly on model instances or work through separate repository classes. It runs on Node.js as well as in the browser, Cordova, Ionic, React Native, NativeScript, and Electron, and works with both TypeScript decorators and plain JavaScript.
18+
19+
Its MySQL and MariaDB driver supports connection pooling, read replication, migrations generated from entity diffs, and a type-safe query builder. Released under the MIT license, it's maintained by the TypeORM community and is one of the most widely used ORMs in the Node.js/TypeScript ecosystem.
