AnduinOS 2.0.2 Is Now Available

We are excited to announce the official release of AnduinOS 2.0.2.

This is one of the most substantial updates to AnduinOS 2 so far. It introduces a new native installer, Btrfs-based recovery, dedicated tools for drivers and Secure Boot, improved hardware and virtual-machine support, and a wide range of desktop, networking, packaging, and reliability improvements.

AnduinOS 2.0.2 is available today for both AMD64 and ARM64 systems.

A New Installation Experience

AnduinOS now uses its own native graphical installer as the default installation path. The new installer provides guided disk setup, coexistence installation, separate target- and boot-disk selection, automatic mirror selection, a fully offline installation path, Wi-Fi profile migration, clearer preflight checks, and improved diagnostics.

It also introduces an Advanced Options page. Passwordless sudo, automatic desktop login, and SSH password access are independent choices and are all disabled by default.

New installations use Btrfs by default, with separate areas for the operating system, personal files, logs, recovery data, containers, and virtual machines. Traditional unencrypted Ext4 installation remains available.

Snapshots and Recovery

The new Disk Snapshots Manager provides a graphical interface for creating, scheduling, protecting, exporting, and restoring Btrfs snapshots. System snapshots and Personal Files history are managed separately, making it possible to roll back the operating system without unnecessarily rolling back personal data.

The manager also integrates with Files, supports recovery across disks, handles interrupted operations, and includes Btrfs maintenance and disk-health information.

Better Hardware Management

The new Driver Center brings graphics, audio, printing, Xbox controller, DKMS, firmware, and Secure Boot status into one application. It can identify incomplete configurations and offer hardware-aware repair actions.

AnduinOS 2.0.2 also includes a shared Secure Boot Toolkit for certificate enrollment, kernel-module signature checks, and recovery. A new YubiKey Security Center provides guided setup for login, sudo, SSH credentials, passkeys, and signed Git commits.

Secure Shell, Ready When You Need It

Fresh AnduinOS 2.0.2 installations include OpenSSH Server so the Secure Shell switch in GNOME Settings works immediately without installing an additional package.

SSH remains disabled by default and the system does not listen on port 22 until the user explicitly enables it. Users may enable SSH during installation or later from GNOME Settings. Every installed machine receives a newly generated SSH host identity; no Live-session host keys are reused.

Existing systems that do not already have OpenSSH Server will not receive or start it automatically during a normal upgrade.

Desktop and Application Improvements

This release also brings:

• Faster, fully offline Bash command suggestions based on local command history.
• Automatic light and dark theme synchronization for supported Flatpak applications.
• A cleaner application list and a more useful, display-aware Start menu.
• Improved light-theme lock-screen styling.
• A Desktop Icons switch in AnduinOS Appearance.
• Improved first-boot Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Flathub, Nextcloud, and mDNS setup.
• Graphical firmware updates for supported devices.
• Improved Swap management and hibernation-readiness checks.
• Safer Windows executable handling and optional embedded icon previews.
• Improved Rime packaging and candidate filtering.
• Better VMware integration on AMD64, including dynamic display resizing and improved clipboard support.

Built and Tested for AMD64 and ARM64

AnduinOS 2.0.2 is released for both AMD64 PCs and ARM64 devices. Boot composition is now architecture-aware, ensuring that each installation receives the correct GRUB and UEFI components for its platform.

Before release, the images were exercised through automated full-system installation tests covering BIOS, UEFI, Secure Boot, online and offline installation, Btrfs and Ext4, MOK enrollment, SSH policy, regional settings, and desktop integration. The AMD64 image was also validated on physical hardware, including snapshot rollback and Secure Boot enrollment workflows.

Please verify the SHA-256 checksum before installing, especially when downloading from a mirror or through a third party.

Upgrading from an Earlier AnduinOS 2 Release

Existing AnduinOS 2 users can receive compatible application, desktop, security, and packaging updates through the normal APT upgrade process:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

Some changes—including the new default Btrfs disk layout and parts of the Live installation environment—apply only to new installations. Upgrading does not repartition an existing system or replace its current filesystem.

I removed evolution via
sudo apt remove --purge evolution evolution-data-server evolution-data-server-common
Unfortunately, this broke the system and dependencies (menu panel, extensions, etc.).
Is there any command or script to repair the entire system?

Agreed. I love that they're not using an ancient kernel version but instead 7.0.
This might be Linux Mint 2.0 in a way.
Love the work so far and I will definitely keep an eye on the project as it evolves.
